Yes ask mod. Or admin. Then you'll know and yet will still be banned from the chat.
PS. Whenever I'm banned from the chat if I just sign out and log back in I can go right in again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you're banned doesn't the mod give a brief reason why that is displayed to you when you try to access the chat?

Usually a reason is given unless it's something obvious like flashing/bad language/offensive remarks blabla.
