Dear NASA,
It has recently come to my attention that there is a large meteor headed to Earth, on a collision course that will no doubt claim the lives of many souls. I know your scientists are working around the clock to figure out a way for us to protect ourselves, lest we go the way of the dinosaurs. I also know that funding for NASA has been summarily cut several years in a row, leading to a money shortage to deal with this great problem that we face.
I’m here to help out. I don’t want to see everyone die, and I have a cost effective way to destroy the meteor. All you need to do is listen and read this informative letter; it contains the answer.
First of all, you will need a ship capable of faster than light travel if we want to get the meteor before it does any real damage. Thusly, I have designed a ship capable of this. All pictures are pictures of the final product.

Please note that the background is white- the ship is not in space yet.
The space ship will need to be rigged with large guns capable of taking out the meteor, but with limited recoil. You don’t want the ship to go flying backwards every time you fire the main cannons to destroy the meteor, so retro-thrusters will automatically kick in, making recoil a thing of the past.

Next, you will need to confront the meteor. The ship has hyper drive capability, in case the meteor is too close in proximity to the ship. It will throw you into another section of space, but the technology is not perfected yet, so you could end up emerging on top of the meteor and dying. It’s the last thing you want to use.

Since you’re no longer facing the asteroid, side thrusters have been installed to enable turning on this ship. Use them to turn and face the meteor, and blast it with the main guns.

Note that the meteor has broken into several smaller pieces. The first part of the job is done; now for the hard part. Cleanup. You must destroy those pieces without being struck. This proves more difficult, and makes using the hyper drive extremely dangerous.

One ship and one crew is now lost. All hope is lost? No. Please note, in the upper left hand corner of that scientific picture, you see how many ships you still have docked in the reserve base. It will more likely than not, take more than one crew to destroy the meteor. This isn’t “Armageddon,” causalities are not to be taken lightly.
Finally, measures must be taken to combat space madness. The main ship will have a control panel that keeps track of each meteor destroyed, assigning them a point value.

It should be noted that when all meteors are destroyed, there is a good chance that another will show up. Summarily destroy this menace as well.’
Should you meet aliens, blow them up. We are not to make contact with aliens and they will try and kill you.

Because they are such a threat, destruction of the alien menace will register as the destruction of eight regular sized meteors in the reserve computer scoring system.
Please follow these instructions. They are budget friendly and will no doubt save the Earth from the meteor that is currently hurtling towards us.
Thank you for your time,
