    Windows Onecare beta

    http://www.betanews.com/article/Wind...ive/1133366007

Seems Windows is releasing a beta to their new antivirus/ firewall/ tune-up/ backup software. I see that it looks like good software but it is still a beta. Windows is usually buggy anyway but their software can be effective(Most times). I wanted to know what you guys think about this.

I have 4 things to say:

    1. Symantec and McAfee are Pissed now. (Wooho! I hatedMcAfee's and Symantec's software.)

    2. is there still a point to keep AVG?

    3. What about those who don't use XP SP 2?

    4. I am sticking with Nod32.

    RE: Windows Onecare beta

We all knew it was coming eventually. I mean, they bought out GIANT Antispyware to make Microsoft Antispyware. It was only a matter of time before they moved on to some sort of antivirus. They already have firewall, tune-up, and backup features in Windows XP SP2, so those aren't exactly important.

    1. Symantec and McAfee are screwed if Microsoft keeps this free in the final release.

    2. The beta itself requires removal of all antivirus programs, so you have to get rid of AVG anyway.

    3. If you don't use SP2, you don't care enough about your computer to use this. Those who don't use SP2 most likely won't care in the first place.

    4. What the hell is Nod32?

SP2 is a terrible piece of garbage. Not using it proves that you do care about your computer. All Windows updates cause more harm than help.

          RE: Windows Onecare beta

I stick with Ubuntu Linux and Mac OS X. I know that windows onecare should be good but it is gonna be buggy even after the final release.

          1. About time Symantec and McAfee would die.

          2. I dont care if I have to get rid of it. I can see if onecare is better. Does it do anything about an antivirus on your computer that is installed AFTERWARD? I mean you can always hack the program.

          3. SP2 is a piece of you know what. I have it on one computer. The other ten include Linux and Mac one other has 98 and I have Nod32 on it.

          4. Nod32 is an antivirus. It is ranked as the best one out there yet. It can find a virus even if it isn't in Nod32's database. It is alot better than McAfee and Symantec.

I thought Microsoft wasn't allowed to make an antivirus and that doing so would officially make their product a monopoly?

They must have found some corporate loophole.

I think it's that if they give it away it doesn't count. Meaning, all they have to do to have the monopoly is to give it away rather than sell it.

                RE: Windows Onecare beta

I bet the next time I get a PC with windows on it, it will have windows Onecare on it. I bet on the windows install CD it will have onecare on it like it does Windows Media. IF i decided to keep windows I would change it around to get windows onecare off; that is IF it is a piece of crap. The registry and a file cleaner do wonders.

Whos to say I wont get a MAC instead of a PC?

Onecare will be like word. Most likely to come with your PC, but it is an optional choice.

I downloaded the Beta version. It is very efficient, caught a few trojans. Unfortunately, it is a CPU whore, and conflicts with any other firewall or anti-virus software you have, and you can't end the proccess at all.

                        RE: Windows Onecare beta

Nod32 linkage please. I use this underground antivirus called Kapersky AV. It's real underground, unmarketed, and highly efficient. But it's a CPU whore as well and it gives too many pop-up notifications on an infected file/db that it found. If only it would give me the popups later cause if i try running the AV while im out somewhere, a popup pops up and the scanning won't continue until i press ok or whatever, which blows. But it is a good AV, finds a lot of great stuff.

Word isn't free, though, shade, unless you pay for it to come with your computer. If you had said works or windows firewall (SP2), you would have been more correct.

I think I may get this one I get a laptop, but I'd really like to see it out of beta first. I do have Microsoft Antispyware, and it works better than just about any spyware program... realtime scan, catches a lot of things other programs don't. I expect this antivirus will be one of the top antivirus programs out there, but it needs a lot of time for development first.

Windows stuff is great. But the operating system itself seems to automatically corrupt its files more and more as time goes on. Tech experts recommend Windows users reformat and reinstall their OS every year, two years at most. The problem is, most users don't know how to do it, or in cases like mine, we're just too lazy... it takes too much effort.
