So my cpu was like HEY YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH RAM HAHAHAHA.

So I went on a process ending spree.

I got down to 28, without explorer rofl. I'm running without explorer, it's really fun.

But anyways, the main reason is nvidia stuff, logitech stuff, and norton (my dad likes it, don't ask)
I checked EVERY PROCESS to see if it was endable, and thats what I got to, anyone feel like comparing and contrasting?

I'd love a list of all the stuff that is NORMALLY running on people's machines... and what doesn't need to run. I have 39 and wouldn't mind closing some.

I currently have 39 processes running. Half of them are AOL (GOD I HATE AOL SO MUCH), McAfee and AntiVir Guard.

And if you guys don't want random stupid processes, click Start -> Run... and type in msconfig and hit enter. A box will pop up. Pick "Selective Startup" and deselect "Load Startup Items" and hit okay. It'll ask you to restart, but you don't have to. Basically, this just keeps crap from opening up every time you start the computer. My mom's computer used to take forever to boot up, then I did this and it was up a lot faster. Even if you immediately run the stuff you normally would, it will load up faster (or it seems to, because the computer quickly opens each rather than slowly trying to load everything at once and therefore not seeming to do much of anything).

I couldn't tell you what
MsPMSPSV, sdmcp, crcss, or lsass does, but apparently I have either turned them on or something I haven't cought yet. I do an MSCONFIG once a week so, more than likely they are stuff I just don't remember.

Btw, MSCONFIG basically tells you what each process is and allows you to turn off the ones not needed. This also lets you set what processes you want to allow at startup so you don't have to keep turning shit off everytime you restart.

To do this:
-Start menu > Run > Msconfig
-Click "Services" Tab
-Check the box that says "Hide All microsoft Services". This hides all services needed for windows to operate properly
-Read through the list of whats left and Uncheck all boxes not needed.
-Click "Startup" Tab
-Read through the list of whats left (all microsoft items should alread be hidden) and Uncheck all boxes not needed.

It helps.

Don't use MSCONFIG, you could really mess up your computer if you dont know what you are doing. Instead, use "Services" under Administrative Tools in your control panel.

I run 16 base processes. 15 if you don't count taskmgr.exe
I gutted my basic services down to raw essentials.

After that, there is IE, AIM, MSN, etc.

Don't be an idiot and uncheck something that is vital to your system.

Don't ever hit uncheck all. And read all descriptions of anything before you turn it off. Simple.
