Alright, so, a few weeks ago, the top part of my task manager disappeared.



It would be really nice to have it back.

Also, I can only end processes under Gilbert. I used to be able to end whatever process I wanted...but that was before the top part disappeared. I am the main computer user, fixer, whatever'er in my house, so it would be nice to fix the task manager, because it is kind of important. I have no idea where to start, so I thought I'd ask here.

P.S. Don't give me wise-ass remarks about my computer...I know... I'm fixing it.

Because not all of them are actually real system processes and there are some things I need to delete that are hiding under the protection of me not being able to end tasks. Jerks. Plus I want to be able to close my brother's stuff while he's not looking haha

Phew, Just on that part of the list, I would kill 10 processes.

I have 44 processes running at the moment. It used to average around 19.

What the fuck.

I used to average at 8 (with nothing else running).

32, currently.... I've had over 50, but that is usually when I have about 20 BitTorrent windows open.

I would go on over to the other person's side and log them off so all their useless processes stop.

Ok so varia.. I was struggling with this problem just last week. It really is the biggest pain.. startups and whatnot. Anyway, I would recommend using this page http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html But that's just general WindowsXP stuff. About halfway down that page is a program, aptly named autoruns, that should help you out at least a bit.

You can also google up a program called HijackThis. It's useful too.
