    It has begun...

    QUAKECON, 2005!

Starts today, at the Gaylord, and ends the 14th. I'll be checking with my parents to see when I can go.

"QuakeCon is a free convention held every year in the Dallas, TX area. Thousands of computer gamers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to play with their friends on a giant gaming network, see the latest cool technology, and compete in a world-class tournament. Though mostly volunteer run, QuakeCon is sponsored by id Software, makers of the immensely popular Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein series of games. While the convention celebrates these games in particular, it is really a huge party for fans of computer gaming in general… from the hobbyist to the hardcore.
Often described as the Woodstock of gaming, QuakeCon is "4 Days of Peace, Love, and Rockets".
Imagine a room with rows and rows of computers full of people playing all kinds of multiplayer games. Noise, explosions, people yelling at each other and having a great time! The next room is full of booths where companies showcase their newest and upcoming games and hardware. Close by is the main tournament, where hundreds of the most talented players from around the world compete for cash and prizes. In other rooms there are conferences with people talking about the future of gaming and other topics of interest to the gaming community.

No other event is quite like QuakeCon."

    Sounds like fun.

btw, is the 'Gaylord' a convention center or a hotel?

It is a both with a little bit of "hell on earth" and some more "corporate jackasses stealing my soul."

Unfortunately, the place was incredibly dark and the flash on the camera has failed to work for quite some time, so alot of the pictures taken are not going to be shown because you won't be able to make out anything. I will try harder next time.

Ah, the ever-vigilant Intel booth. One of the few places with enough light for the camera to see stuff.

I'm not totally sure what this is, though I have my suspicions, but it was a picture I took and it's bright enough to see.

That's right. Sno Bawls. They were giving out free shots to everyone, and after listening to everyone try it, it sounded like you either effing loved it, or you didn't like it at all.

Le GASP! People got to play Quake 4 Deathmatch!

Yeah, I got to play Auto Assault. It's a ton of fun, especially for an MMORPG. It reminds me of Aquanox, except in cars and it has RPG elements.

        Quake 4 Deathmatch pic.

Another Quake 4 Deathmatch pic. Curse my shaky hands. Curse them.

A computer that runs as a operational refridgerator. Definitely no the most original computer mod there (there were sooo many kickass modded computers) but one of the few you can actually see, once again no thanks to my camera's flash function.

A glowing nVidia chair. What's so special about that? The computer is inside it.

        Ze schedule! Ze schedule!

And now, I leave you with the funniest thing I saw that whole day. I took one look at this thing and just laughed my ass off.

Will probably be going today and tommorrow.

[16:02] Omega: You're lucky you have me to send the Quakecon to you.
          [16:02] Q: Yeah.
[16:02] Q: Too bad it's at the gaylord.
[16:02] Q: You know what I hate about Gaylord?
[16:02] Q: It's already a shitty sounding name so you can't make fun of it without making it sound better or sounding like a retard yourself.
          [16:03] Q: "Gaylord? More like GAY-lord. Wait..."

          I thought it was funny.

Argh. When I got there, everything was closed again, so once again there weren't enough lights to picturize everything. So I only got a few new pics.

The registration booths, right before the entrance.

The following 2 pictures are the best I could get in trying to show all the computers. This is NOT all of them. It's just the most I could fit in.

IT'S A GODDAMN BAWLS LAMP. HOW AWESOME IS THAT.

SENIOR GAMING LEAGUE: "Respect Your Elders, Or Suffer Their Wrath!" It was so cool.

Oh, yes. Right behind that board, there were 2 rows of old guys going at it in Quake. They were kicking ass, too.
