That's right folks, everything has been finalized and the forms for an Ottawa DDR/ITG2 tournament have been made.
If the states have meet-ups, why shouldn't we? I know it's on short notice, but a lot had to be done over the past few days so cut them some slack.
What
Ottawa Midway 3 day Event
Friday 29th, July 2005 - Sunday 31st, July 2005
This is a tournament that uses a DDR Extreme cabinet and an ITG 2 cabinet. Weather permitting, it will be outdoors, under a tent, Caution-taped off in the parking lot, music as loud as I'm comfortable putting it. Which is loud. If weather is too hot, or wet, etc. Then the event will be held inside. Only real difference: the machines won't be as loud.
Cost:
$5 Registration (Again, I'd like to do away with this completely, but they demand to make a profit. it is a company, after all.)
$5 per event pre-registration ($7.50 per event for day-of registration.)
What you get:
Midway food sucks. It's outside. Therefore, I have no problem spending my own money and getting some real pizza. In other words, the price is lower this time around because I've done away with a good number of the expenses.
Unlimited Gatorade (in a jug, outside, with the machines.)
What if an event doesn't happen because there aren't enough people?
In that case, the machines will be on half price until the next scheduled event.
Prizes:
I'm hoping Pepsi and Red Octane will give me some prizes. As well as MicroPlay and a few others. I may even be able to pull off an Arcade cabinet courtesy Midway that would be great for a MAME/StepMania cabinet. That's iffy though. (the old Percussion Freaks cab)
Events
- DDR Standard
- DDR "Middle-weight" (this is for people too good for standard, but not good enough for heavy)
- DDR Heavy
- DDR Freestyle
- ITG2 Medium/Hard
- ITG2 Hard/Expert
- ITG2 Battle
- ITG2 Survivor
- Doubles (machine determined by popular vote on the day of)
Schedule
Current (preliminary) schedule:
Friday (29th):
7AM: Setup. (Anyone who comes in to help me gets much love. Basically, this is the hardest part. I will have two options, one of which depends on if the truck is even there. I can bring the cube van up to the loading bay, put the games in the truck and drive it around, or I'll have to find someone to help me put the games on carts and walk them down the ramp out front.)
9AM: Practice and Event Registration - 1-2hr. Free Play. At this point in time, the games are outside, have been since about 8 and will be guarded by someone. This is because I will have to get all the games inside the Midway working properly.
10-11AM:
First event. DDR Standard. ITG2 Survivor. Judging by the last tournament, I imagine this will be done by 5.
5-6PM: Half price, Second Event Registration - 1hr. Chances are that at this time, I'm going to be taking off to Pizza Pizza or somewhere to get some food. Don't tell Midway.
7-8PM:
Second Event. DDR Freestyle. ITG2 will be on half price. (1 or 2 tokens, depending on what I can convince Midway of.)
10:30PM whether Freestyle is done or not: Take down. The games have to be off by 11PM at the latest, and have to be safely stored in the Midway before it closes at Midnight.
Saturday (30th):
7-10/11AM: Same schedule as Friday.
10/11AM: First Events. ITG2 Medium/Hard, ITG2 Hard/Expert
5/6PM: Half Price, Second Event Registration
7/8PM: Doubles tournament, machine to be declared by popular vote, other machine will be on half price.
10:30PM: Take down.
Sunday (31st): (I should point out that I will *need* help on Sunday, because I also have to empty games and count tokens. Which generally keeps me busy from 8:30 right up until 12.)
10/11AM: DDR Heavy. DDR Medium-Weight.
6/7PM: ITG2 Battle Tournament.
10:30PM Take down.
