Groundhog day is the dumbest "holiday" ever. Like, if the groundhog sees it's shadow then there will be 6 more weeks of Winter and if it doesn't it means 6 more weeks until Spring. If anyone hasn't realized, it's exactly the same thing. Not to mention, the first day of spring is marked on calendars prior to Groundhog Day so I don't undertsand why everyone freaks out when the Groundhog sees his shadow, like duh, you knew it was coming, look on a calendar!

It's the optimistic vs. pessimistic view that is decided. Either it's "Only 6 short weeks until spring" or "6 long weeks of winter still to drag on."
I am not standing up for the holiday. I do agree that even for a joke holiday, it is fucking stupid.
