    Calling International

Alright, so, I would really like to call my friends in Japan, who have unfortunately returned to their country forever. But you see, there's this problem. Called money. I really can't afford almost $2 per minute. Not even rich people would pay that. So anyways, I was wondering if any of you knew any cheap secrets or whatever for saving money on international calls, or know of some cheap service or something. I would just like to use MSN or Skype with them or something, but they don't really use computers. They check their email like once every other week. So yeah, any help with those international rates would be greatly appreciated. For reals.

Do cell phones reach that long? If they do, and you have one, you could call on a night or weekend and it wouldn't charge if you have free nights and weekends.

      RE: Calling International

cell phones will charge seperately for international calling. i get 6 cents a minute to uk from sprint for my cellphone, and that's not bad all around considering it is a mobile, and is about the same price as my house line, which is served by SBC.

two dollars a minute seems well, I don't see why it would be so expensive. It really depends on the area you are calling and who your provider is, as a lot of smaller phone companies don't have international capabilities, so they pass your call off onto another company and have to charge you more to cover the cost of using someone else's network.

Calling card? They're relatively inexpensive, and if you called international, you would just be charged more minutes than if you were calling someone in your own country.
