RE: Re: RE: Help me
Yeah, at the time Squeek bought his computer, that was an amazing deal- keep in mind also, PCI-E was hot off the assembly line. Bout time you upgraded your video card, though. I kind of have to refuse to believe that you managed to max out Doom III with an X300, which is essentially a PCI-E version of the 9200.
And uh, 2k4 actually does take quite a bit of GPU punch to run well. Epic has always been known to push the limits of technology- the original Unreal was the first true system killer, and when 2k3 came out, PCG claimed that you wouldn't be able to run it maxed out if you were running "a P4 3.0 housed in an igloo of liquid nitrogen, running a non-existant GeForce 5." 2k4 wasn't quite as taxing, since it was essentially the same engine, but it was close.
Tny, your comp is nice for $600. I've spent no more than $900 on my rig, and I have an Athlon 3000, 512 mb of PC3200 and a Radeon 9800 Pro. I'll be getting a gig of ram soon, as soon as I get my ass out to Microcenter.
