SM > R2 (explaining my logic)

I've said in several threads that SM is definitly better than R2, and I've gotten some foul remarks about this. I had typed up an explaination in one topic but FFR messed up while posting and I lost it. In another topic I had typed up an explaination but upon posting I found that the topic had been locked and stickied and I couldn't post. Thankfully, I copied it before hitting submit, so here is my logic:

There is no way R2 will be better than SM, especially in this first release. There will be certain aspects that are better, but in total, SM beats R2.

    Ways R2 will beat SM:

-Multiplayer is easier (no DLing metrics, everybody has same songs no matter what)
-No need to DL and install stuff
-No need to go looking for songs
    -Less of a system hog?
    -Online rankings for songs

    Ways SM will beat R2:

-Ability to add whatever songs you want/make your own steps (that alone makes it better for me)
    -Better graphics
-Customizeable. Custom themes, noteskins, metrics, everything, pretty much
-Will work regardless of your connection to the internet or the status of FFR's connection to the internet
-Gets updated ALOT more often (because it's open source, if I'm not mistaken)
-Sounds better (assuming R2 sounds the same as FFR. From what I can tell, FFR doesn't play the full range of sounds, so you get less bass and such things. CIA Rave sounds a lot better when played off of my computer than when played in FFR)
-More songs already released than R2. There are plenty of good stepfiles for SM already, giving it more replayability

Well, that's about all I can think of to list right now. But from my standpoint, that proves that SM is MUCH better.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

but you have to think what features out weigh others.

R2 can be played from anywhere, with nothing to download. SM, you have to download the software, songs, themes, noteskins, it all has to be sought out, R2 is in one place.

Just wait to see some features before you judge it.

For me its going to come down to the fact SM will run better than r2 will on a slow pc =/

But r2 will be amazing regardless.

        No crap it's better.

But R2 will be different and that's the point. The online aspects and highscores are highly appealing. Plus there will be a lot more noobs playing this.

Also, the fact that R2 is backed up by a great community helps. Playing SM is fun, but it isn't the same because you are all alone.

            okay?

Thousands of people play FFR currently, and stepmania is available. Making it better isn't going to hurt, and what is your point anyways? It's online, convenient, and fun. I'm saying this and i've been using stepmania since the earliest stages.

You are comparing a sports car to a bike.

Of course the sports car is better than a bike, but you use a bike to get to your friends down the street, and a car to get to your grandparents a few states away.

R2 is good for online play. It can be accessed from anywhere, and it's got a lot of good features.

But obviously a exe can utilize more of the systems resources, so obviously it will run better (higher frame rate), and it can do a few more things.

                R2 is good for online

                SM is good for exe.

I know it'll be better, but everytime I said something people acted like that was blasphemous (sp?)

Not exactly. My school blocked this site (those bastards!) so I can't play it. However, I have SM and a bunch of songs on a CD which I bring in and play before school. The preload takes a lil while but it runs just fine off of the CD (even on shitty school computers).

Yes, but R2 will be very limited. There are now many different mods for Stepmania changing gameplay and such...and adding new things, not to mention the ability for any user to create countless new things. With R2, we have to let Synth (and others) add the different elements and wait (possibly) a long time just to have it implemented.

On a first release, I feel SM will remain better, but as R2 progresses and more and more versions are created, I feel R2 has the possibility to be much better.
                      What?

Stepmania will be the best for a while but I have a feeling that with so many great people working on it, R2 will end up passing SM.

Well for one thing on R2 I couldn't care less about the themes and noteskins, as long as there is Note or Note+ type of skin then it's all good. It's all about the highscoring and whatever, play SM if you don't like R2 then =\

The Multiplayer adds quite a bit, we'll just have to see which we like better. Release it already!

I was only saying this because people were freaking out and spamming, and I said they shouldn't freak out about a stupid new version when there's already better stuff out there. Then people acted like I was wrong, so I felt I had to explain myself.
