    CT posts

Over the months I've been here, I've noticed that many people have read what the CT regs write. They say they know something else to add, but don't. Why? Mainly out of fear an embarassment.

This thread I'm using to address the issue. I want these people to post. The only people who are harsh on other's idea don't belong in there anyway. If you just tell us what you think it's a load easier than digging it out of you later. I want to know what you know. I want to know how you feel. I want know know how you think. How can I do this without you participating some?

    That's just my feeling.

      Re: RE: CT posts

EDIT: Never mind, I'm not going to start the abortion crap here.

I personally don't post in Critical Thinking too much because most of the issue topics I either don't have opinions on or are topics that people will always have their mind set on one side or the other and they'll be impossible to change.
I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

        RE: Re: RE: CT posts

I don't want to start anything in here, either, Kilga, but I will say this. Everyone has their price.

I'm glad I started this thread. I'm sure the people who post in it can clear up some suspicions, or at least be enouraged enough to join up in the CT forum.

I'm always up for hearing what people have to say on an issue. The only thing I don't want to see, though, is someone coming, posting their idea, then leaving forever without debating or supporting it.

Oh, and chardish, I don't agree with your charge, but that's another CT thread... =)

I used to post in CT all the time, and I just kind of stopped. Why? I just don't care anymore. I got sick of debating the same dead issues over and over, with every person I know in real life and every forum I got to. And like Kilga said, with most issues the person's mind is impossible to change anyway, so why bother? I'll just get pissed off and end up offending someone. And while this may not be an issue with politics, I can't discuss certain scientific or mathematical topics since I'm a few years behind the regs in there.

I debate too much and get my opponent(s) extremely aggravated. (Sup Mwerp, Makaveli, DDRKing, Evilbutterfly, and anyone else I didn't mention)

I think I've taken it upon myself to not post in here again... Especially since the next time I do, it'll probably be attacking something grammatical.

I'm glad I at least got through to you a little over AIM, Q.

I posted there quite often until there was too many people posting there about the same subjects. I got bored and I didn't have many things to say or reply to. Im not quite as intellectual as some of the really great posters in there. So I stopped posting alltogether.

If you're in CT to change someone's mind about something you believe, you're getting the whole concept wrong. The idea of CT is to be proven wrong. This way you learn a new concept or idea. The people who are stubborn are who you learn from the most. They're either morons or abosolutely right. That's why I do it. I'm not in there to spread the knowledge (You're all competition, why should I help you?), I'm there to mooch your thinking from you. That's the truth. I do enjoy talking to you guys, though.

Squeek, I really need to talk to you about language. You're very persistant in believing it's already perfect (Don't reply to this, anyone. I don't want a hijacked thread). It's great to talk to you guys on AIM. Feel free to IM me any time.

I post in CT from Time to time, but some of the topics aren't really discussion-intiating. Plus, with Specforces not posting insightful things, I'm left to my own devices.

Let's not forget how off-topic people can make those.

Or how the same crap gets recycled in the topics.

If I see a discussion worth going into, I'll post in it.

Do your part, as well. Too many people, including myself, have gone into the forums and just sit there, hoping for a good thread to pop up. If there isn't one, make one. Someone has to. Just make sure it's worthwhile.

So the idea is not to prove other people wrong, but to get proven wrong yourself?

                        No offense, but fuck that.

Yes. Argue your point and be proven wrong. If you are not proven wrong you already have a mastery of the subject. If you are, you've learned something new or have expanded your knowledge about a certain topic.

And I don't take offense. You're the one who's limiting himself.

The problem with "proving right or wrong" is that you can't prove opinions right or wrong, and there's no real need to discuss whether facts are right or wrong because they're right by the virtue of being facts.

That's not true either. Some facts are just the deluded moral sensiblity of some people. Environmentalism is good, is one such fact.

And yes, opinion is impossible to determine. I don't see why it's discussed at all. It does make sense, though, to try to make sense of opinion. Try to find fact in it and determine whether the opinion is a good one to keep.
