Not sure if this goes here but i need help

I have microphone issues... x_o

Never in my LIFE would I ever thinkg to have a "microphone issue" I mean... its so SIMPLE, so why am I having probelms?! Ok. Heres the deal. I just bought some cheap ass Labtec mic for about 8 bucks. I come home, plug it into my computer and go to sound recorder to test it out.

Doesnt work.

So, I go to properties, make sure mic isnt on mute,volume is at least half way up. Apply. Ok.
Lets try this AGAIN

Nope. No recording. Head ot the microsoft help section and notice that I dont have the "Speech recognition" tab in my "Speech" section of the control pannel. SO i follow the instructions and install that part, and try to test the microphone.

Nothing works.

I'm not sure if its a sound card issue (I dont even know what the hell my soundcard is.)

So I leave it in your hands my friends. Maybe SOMEONE can help me fix this, because the Labtec site is about as helpful as the Microsoft site and NEITHER are doing their job. I hope theres some tech genious here to help me.

Be sure to check if you plugged your mic in the correct place, sometimes I mess up and plug it into where my speakers should go. Make sure that if your mic is powered by batteries, that it has fresh working ones. Go to control panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, then click on the audio tab. Make sure the mic is set to your sound card and not a modem playback.

Theres a plug in the front adn the back, and I tried both. None seem to work, And this microphone doesnt need batteries. And all the playbacks are on my NVidia n force thing.


As for the tech genious, thanks for your imput, but unless you're actually planning to help me without being a complete and utter jackass, I suggest you shut your mouth. ^_^

I'm serious. Eight dollar microphones should not be expected to work reliably. Go spend some money.

run windows update and see if there are any drivers to be updated for your sound card.

Did that right after. Nothing seemed to work.


And again to the Tech Genius. I only bought this because my friend also has one and it works perfectly for her. My computers the issue really, not the mic.

He doesn't know. He says his playbacks are on an N force thingy. N force is a type of chipset for a motherboard. If he says his playback files are on the chipset, can you really expect him to know a lot about computers? =/

Just making sure. Once it's plugged in, go to Control panel>Sound and audio devices>Voice>Test Hardware and wait for it to load. Under the recording thing, click volume and make sure microphone is checked. If it's not, change it, go back, and see if you get a response from speaking into the mic. (Playback doesn't really matter). If it doesn't, try going through the options in the voice tab. Mines selected as "Creative CB Live! Series" for both voice playback and recording.
