    New HOTNESS!

Was checking momsbox and came across this link..

This shit is too sweet... It's basically a portable emulator that can emulate a whole hell of a lot of shit..

    Examples being:
NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Spectrum, Commodore 64, Atari ST/800/2600, GB/GBC, PCEngine, Genesis/Megadrive, SG1000, Various Arcade, MSX1/2, Neogeo pocket, Gamegear, and that aint all...

It also will play PC games like DOOM (the old one mind you), Heretic, Monkey Island series, and lucasarts games...

This shit was bad ass... but then they made it better. It's ability to play MP3's, DivX movies, AVI, Wav, WMA, OGG etc.

I runs with a Mega Powerful 166/180MHZ CPU, perfect for emulators!

And that aint everything... Check the site for more details.. http://www.gbax.com/new/gp32.html#gp32

Ok, It's just a mini computer.. just using smartcards instead of a hard drive.. Go buy one and then tell us about it.

      I mean, yeah.. I'm excited.
Yeah, I can eventually get one.

But this thing running 100% and that stuff.. Someone get it before I do and review it please

Oh, and using the smart media cards = much more money.. I doubt you expect to hold 2gb's of games on just one card (how big do they get anyway?)

      Only 5+ hours?

They make 256mb+ flash memory cards, but I don't know if they would all be compatible with this.
          Nice.

Well considering that a nes rom is less than a meg... and SNES Roms are about a meg and a half... Thats still a shit ton of games.. and the fact that its portable makes it even better.. It would be like taking your nes, sega, GBA, Game Gear, VERY small computer, atari.. and lods of other shit... it's the greatest handheld system ever..

No, I don't expect to hold that on one card.. but htink like this.. a single gba game is like $40, you can buy a card for like 30, and put like 40 games on it.. thats a HUGE saving no matter how you look at it..

GBA games are $30 here. I don't really get GBA games anyway unless they're seriously worth my money. Besides, I already have all those systems on my computer, Dreamcast, and Playstation. The only incentive to buy it would be because it's portable.

You'd also need a smart media card. Most definately more than one and let's assume the 128 one.. That's about $30 on ebay right? Add about.. 3 more just to hold about 25% - 50% of all the Snes games made. Then you get a transfer device and that's about $10 - $20.

I know about all the NES games all together is about 600mb.. NES is one of those systems where you can get bored with one game easily and will want to switch to another, random game.

But it's only 5+ hours of play with 2 AA batteries
People are already complaining because PSP promises like 10+ hours.

                Kenzya,

I think your logic is flawed. You do not need to hold almost all the games made for SNES at one time. That is like buying a PC and declaring that it is no good if you don't have a 1,000 terrabyte HD so you can hold all the games ever made. Only one smart card is needed for your favorites. You also can link the system directly up to the PC which means you don't need a "Transfer Device". I also don't agree with your statement about getting bored and wanting to switch games often. It depends on the type of game you are playing. Regardless, you could fit atleast a couple hundred NES games on a single memory card.

On the other hand, 5+ hours is a little low and you have to really be motivated and want to play nostalgic games in order to own one of these. The fact that it can emulate Atari ST is amazing considering all the custom chips the ST had in it. At one time the Atari ST was one of the most popular home computers everywhere besides the US.

                Cheers,

                Synthlight

I agree with Synth, the games you would actually play on this device, would be your favorites, and you wouldn't get tired of them quickly.

Also, if you are really going to use this for like, your daily source of entertainment, get rechargable batteries. Thats what I use for my digital camera, and my wireless mouse came with them and a charger. It only takes my AA's about an hour to rechare fully, of course, after the initial charge.

Yeah I know. Which was what I was thinking after I had typed that all out, but I just kept it there anyway. There's still a point in there somewhere... It would be a hassle to keep transfering games though if you ran out of space a lot.

I didn't know it hooked up to the computer so that's a plus too.

So the only thing left is the lifetime. I'm really into old games. I'm also a 2d fanatic.. So if this lasted more than 10 hours I'd seriously consider it.

                      Especially for DOOM *drools*

Maybe the Zodiac (http://www.gbax.com/new/zodiac.html) is more of your thing kenzya?.. Recharchable lion battery, faster CPU device, touch screen, better resolution.. It emulates the same stuff, just a little more expensive..

Wtf. I thought the Zodiac was going to be a commercial product that was going to play it's own games.

Any reviews of this? I found the GP32 review on that site.. said it had some problems playing SNES games.. What about this?

What do you do about the shortage of buttons? I know lot's of games that would use more than the 2 the GP32 has.

                          Proof of what I thought..

Ok, I didn't read that review before, but thanks for bringing it to attention kenzya. Basically What I got out of it was that some not all snes have frame rate problems.. and they put the blame on the emulators that are available to you, and not the gb32. So as new and better SNES emulators come available, you can just transfer it over to your gb32 and get to it again... Much better than the playstation problem they had when it first came out, where many people had to take there to get upgrades on something, because it wouldn't read the newer games (this was way back about 6 months I think after it originally came out)

As for the buttons, there are 4 of them, "a","b", "L1", and "R1".. Which is all most of the lower systems took... Now again with the SNES, They didn't really see anything in that review pertaining to controller issues.. So im guessing they somehow got around the 2 button difference, or they want to put any negative opinions on the system..

Now I did notice the Zodiac had the 4 regular buttons, but couldn't tell if it had the L and R also just by the way the picture showed.. About it being commercial, I got no Idea... That might just be one of the games from the PC you can play on it..

I hate those things I never play them and eventually lose them like gameboys.. GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS IS COMING OUT IN 13 DAYS! Playstation 2 is better for me its hulky and semi-hard to lose.
