Bwahahahaha, running it takes my performance to 50% only. This is while I'm using Opera and a whole slew of tabs for some stuff and constantly downloading files as well.
Entering "TeamFFR" as the team works as well. I hope we don't end up having an "FFR" and a "Team FFR" competing against eachother unbeknownst to us all.
yea.. that program maxs out your cpu usage.. i had to setup a fan facing my comp.. cause it sets in wooden desk hole thing, surrounded on all four sides by wood... so i opened the cabinet drawer and put a fan there to cool it down some...
Thanks for the help on the team name, even though that doesn't really matter much as long as you have it setup on the website that you belong to a certain team thats where your stats will go..
after you turn it off, when you turn it back on.. does it go bacvk to the very beginning??... like i was at 15 or so blocks last night before i went to sleep, and i left it running, then my step dad turned it off when he got on in the morning, now its running again and im back at 0 blocks..
just wondering about that
RAVEnHEXa: Lip ring is because I want to be a professional piercer.
87x: more like.. professional goth.
You download "blocks" of numbers to check to verify their prime-ness. Every block you download is a few hundred or so numbers, or maybe just one really really big number. As the program scans the number(s) to see if it (they) are prime, it displays a percentage to tell you how far it's gotten. Upon completetion, it returns true or false to their server for that number and you get a new one. Then that's one block.
I'd assume whenever you turn your computer off, the block # resets, but you've sent the data to the server so it doesn't matter. Team FFR still gets credit.

PS - Just downloading the program isn't enough, so I've found out. You also have to go to the site and login (you should have given your proper e-mail when first using the program) using the password sent to your email. Then go to "Preferences" and look for Team Affiliation. Click the link and find "Team FFR" to join our awesome team of math idiots.
PPS - You don't have to be a math person to do this. Really all you need is a decent computer to run this program. By doing so, you're helping mankind solve some mysteries and helping FFR win some useless contest!
For those that have stated in the thread that they are a part of this and/or have already signed up...make sure your points are working towards the team. We've only got 4 listed (See below)
If you used your real e-mail for the signup, you should have gotten an e-mail telling you your password. Login and select "Team FFR" from the "Team Affiliation" page. Then you're REALLY working for FFR without actually doing anything...
Here's the list.

The site says team stats are updated every day about midnight CST. Now, I don't know about the members for each team, as Squeek signed up today, but after I read that tnyhwk and Squeek signed up, I checked and their names weren't on the list (though Squeek's is, now). I dunno.
Lessee, Deltro, 87x, Squeek, and I have all said we've joined. Who could that mysterious "ElSoyokaze" be? Happy deducing...
Sheesh... I seriously thought I was making good progress until now.
I've figured out what this program does.
Basically, it assigns you a "k" number and an "n" number. Then it sends you blocks of data to calculate those numbers within the formula given. If you notice within the program it tells you block percentage and something called "full test" percentage. Well, unfortunately, "full test" is the FULL amount of time it takes to computer those two numbers within the formula just to check if it's prime. That's right. You're taking away only one possibility in about a week's time. This is an insane amount of computation occuring here. I have it set on "high" to take it down as fast as possible and in five hours I've seen a total progress of 4.5%.
Just checked the logs. I've done almost 60 blocks in that 5 hours. I have over 1,250 to go. HERE I GO.
You have to do the following to ensure your hard work is adding to the value of TEAM FFR.
Make sure that when you made your account you told the program your correct e-mail. An e-mail will be sent to you with your password. To login, go here.
Once logged in, click "Preferences". From there, find "Team Affiliation". Click the link at the end of the paragraph and find "Team FFR" in the drop-down menu. Once selected, that should be it. Now you're working for us!
Edit - 87x, we're going to be moving up at least 70 ranks.

PS - Since Tny just did it, it seems that your "solo" work is carried over into the team when you do the above. All is not lost from your first go with the program when you did not know about how to really sign up for a team. Just get on the team as soon as you can so you can see your real status as compared with the rest of the FFR Team.
