If you have another computer in the house and you're networked to it, send the important files to that computer and reformat your present one. Your computer should have come with a recovery disc that will bring it back to factory settings and clear up any problems. If you don't have another computer, you could also burn it all to CDs or buy another harddrive to temporarily store it on.
