Hearing "You Need To Calm Down" makes me give it a pass.
Granted I know generally singles don't represent a whole art piece of an album but it's mostly the ones considered "easily accessible" to an audience. I didn't mind some of her previous installments that I have heard but I thought just this single alone seemed kind of cringe in some factors personally.
I'm not ashamed to sing Love Story in my car tho.
EDIT: Not to hijack this thread but anyone else ready for that new tool album?

Reason: Question.

me! and you need to calm down weren't good songs imo
but other songs (miss americana and the heartbreak prince, it's nice to have a friend, etc.) are genre-breaking for her and have really good songwriting

Can you like not use those stupid names right now? Took me long enough to get these screen names straight in my head
oh yeah, i read that in white supremacist circles she was labeled "the arian queen" due to her detachment from politics
but she's finally broken into writing about politics and ain't about that life
i usually stray from mainstream but swift is the shit imo
other than lover i've been listening to ascend recently, but illenium's been diving into mainstream edm, which i'm not a fan of (he had a collab with the chainsmokers, ugh). pray is the type of shit that got me hooked on him in the first place though

"You need to calm down" or whatever that single was called made it to where I was never going to be interested in this album and that's the sad truth of the matter, but I'm also not a huge fan of her to start with so maybe that means nothing from me.
EDIT: actually yeah let's go there for a sec

She would still be quiet about it if her silence wasn't being taken ad a defacto "I support white supremacy" and her "getting into politics" was a song that literally had the flow of "stop hating on me. Also stop hating gays, but also stop hating me how many songs do I have to write to explain this?"
I don't believe for a second she wants to talk politics, be a part of an actual movement or make any actual change, or even really cares one way or the other.

travis flesher can make a better simfile than tswift and a team of producers can make "music"
imagine being so pretentious and yet so musically inept that you can't appreciate a simple pop song
the fact that you'd compare making a chart to music production just goes to show how incredibly fucking ignorant you are

whether she actually cares about politics i don't know. but, i don't think she does support white supremacy since she has a history of siding with liberal politics privately. that's what i was trying to get at

it's just annoying when ppl use the "IT POPULAR SO IT BAD" argument to discredit art
you can say that you dislike a particularly popular piece of art, I do this all the time, but there's a difference in disliking something because it doesn't appeal to you and hating on something because it's popular
it other words, don't be like xel, be based like kirby
