I hated the first and thus have no incentive to purchase a sequel.
On the other hand, Half-Life 2 could be $150 and I'd still buy it.

Holy goddamn, it's going to be the best twentieth birthday present ever. I loved the first one and still play competitively, but this one is just going to blow the first out of the water. It is soooooo preordered. Whenever I open up that case, I'm expecting a large boot on a spring to pop out and kick me in the face. No lie, I want this game.

I didn't really like Halo that much. I don't see why the game is so revered - there really isn't anything in it that hadn't been done before in a better way.
Not to mention that I don't even have an Xbox, and have never had a good reason to get one.

FPSes just copy off of every other FPS.
Except for Metroid Prime. I have to thank Retro for not making MP a lame, generic FPS like every other FPS on the market today.Comment

Halo was plenty innovative. No other FPS had a good vehicle system, such an emphasis on the pistol, a wonderful close-combat and grenade system, and slow, methodical gameplay like Halo. Obviously, since it's a sequel, Halo 2 will be like the original, but there a whole lot more than just dual-wielding. All the weapons have been completely revamped, vehicles are new destructible, there's a new melee attack system, just to name the ones on the top of my head. Halo is based more on strategy than any other FPS I've seen, and Halo 2 will far exceed Halo in that department.
Metroid Prime was allowed to be such a great FPS because there was no multiplayer intent. They could do whatever the hell they wanted and adapt the single player mode to Samus, but they would have had to redo the game for player-player competitions. I don't meant to knock MP, as it was a wonderful game, but that's why you're able to set it aside from all other FPS's.
