Me and my infinite wisdom regarding anything and everything still retains belief that, in fact, usage is merely a component of grammar, so we are both right in this regard, and as such I think we should pat each other on the back.

Grammar describes the way in which a language puts together the smallest units of meaning to make words (morphology), and the way it puts words together to make sentences (syntax).
