Congrats on enlisting! I did 4 years in the Air Force, and I loved it. It is what you make out of it though.
My best advice to you is...
1)surround yourself with people that are trying to head in the right direction.
2)Don't get caught up in something stupid that could potentially end your career.
3) Keep yourself in shape as well so you can always be on top of your PT test.
4) Find a mentor that actually gives a damn about helping you go up the ranks.

Oh, and while you're in basic, try to be on the division staff (RPOC, AROC, MA, Mail, anything). it'll give you a bit of motivation. And go to church, even if you're not religious. It'll help you unwind.Comment

Congrats on the Navy. I've been in the Army for 16 months now (my term is 3 years 21 weeks). Stationed in the middle of nowhere in Kansas, but going to South Korea (Camp Humphreys) in 1 1/2 weeks for a 9 month rotation. PCSing afterwards. I need to be somewhere else other than Kansas.
