So Simbi.com is a thing but

I feel like it reeks of potential scams and predators.

So basically it's like Etsy but with bartering for services instead of selling goods. It's trying to set up this community thing where money isn't needed at all and people just do things to help each other to get something they need instead of relying on (what I assume to be evil, disgusting) cash.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea and I am more then intrigued in such a system, but I don't trust human beings to not ruin it.

BUT HEY if any of you are actual members and have more insight then let me know. I kind of want to keep an eye on it.

(a) seems like a good idea in san francisco or wherever when everyone is weird and tech-literate and "yeah let's give it a shot! " and loves to signal their use of cool new thing

but (b) when it hits any other city where it exists exclusively out of functional need, it's gonna be a lot of "bj 4 drugs" and "will fix car 4 computer help"

plus people won't do their end of the deal right, so many times

etc (where "etc" = bad things people with rosy view of human nature didn't predict. good job you never studied history, ever, I guess.)

this is the sort of dumb bullshit you think will work when you are simultaneously deluded about economics and human nature. all that's left is some new age religion and alternative medicine to be the antithesis of real human knowledge in any domain

the best part is this website founder knows this is bullshit anyway if he's an ex VC
