As someone who also has an interest in learning good ol' moon, I have to say good luck lol. Honestly the only reason i'd take it in a class setting is because i'm terrible at managing my time, and having a place dedicated to learning the language and an instructor to ask questions would be nice. However, i do think there are plenty of "decent" ways of learning the lanuage without the need of going to a class (not that i'm saying you're making the wrong decision or anything).
Honestly i'll admit, i don't have much of an interest in their actual culture, I'm not going to beat around the bush here, ACTUAL Japanese culture sucks. The only reason i'd go through the hell of learning that language is that i'm fond of their entertainment and counter-culture (Amine, Mangos, jRPGs, and VNs), and ALOT of the stuff i want to read/consume aren't translated (Or will most likely never recieve any kind of translation).
