So the title might have implied a little more drastic circumstances than I am really undergoing but hello.

I was just moved up to D4, so I'm for sure lower D4, I think. But uhm uh, I realize that after this comes the big leagues (IMO D5 is the big leagues), and I'd like to get even better than that eventually. Therefore, i'd like to here from the big boys of this game about tips and bad habits (ESPECIALLY BAD HABITS) that I should avoid. I don't want something I've been doing holding me back. For information:
Speed Mod: 2.5x
Setup: RGJI
Mods: Column Colors/ No background ----Now I realize Colors provide the beat markings and all that jazz for the song, however I have found I play significantly better without colors. Although thoughts here are still encouraged.

Actually hit the notes as they are. Don't abuse frames in ffr, and hit shit as jumps. (32nd rolls for example).

Only hit shit at jumps if the song is actually fast enough, like for example the rolls in Einstein Rosen Bridge. Else, learn to roll.

Learn to play with colors.

Personal recommendation is start going to songs 87+ and playing them on rates. If you struggle with speed, playing Eclipse (Solar) on 0.7x might help you out. Or even songs like RATO on 0.5x or Serious Shit at 0.7x may help. Alternatively, try fucking around with some 40s and 50s on 1.1x or 1.2x

Hey Squid, you should check out Mahou's guide. It'll help a lot, really. I sure learned something new from it.

ATM I'd say your speed and setup is fine. If you like column colors, then stick with it. Yeah it's unconventional, but don't be afraid to do you.

I think I told you this before, but I'd try to get in the mindset that you're training to improve at FFR.

Note colors is a blessing and a curse, it can be helpful to learn how things are quantized, but it can also interfere sometimes with just hitting things as they are.
Because I rely on note colors so much, for example, hitting the white cumstain burst in Counter Clockwise Chant Pattern is almost impossible for me.

There are lots of things you can do to avoid bad habits. But if you really want to improve, keep an open mind and always consider trying new things.

this has always been a kind of weird thing for me cause like when you're at the end of hatsune miku or DP and there are notes everywhere and you can't read crap then how do you NOT mash
or how do you "play" a stream that's way too fast for you

I've played you in MP bro, you're fine. The one minor thing I would say to avoid is over-whoring a song because mindblocks suck. I have them on Lolo and look what happened to me.

youre probably gonna hit the stamina wall soon, id recommend playing long stream/ js songs on rates (above 1.0) to work on it
