I have very often thought of recording a couple vids of me playing sm or ffr, unfortunately, I don't have a video camera. I know that there are some programs that people use to record what is on the screen; does any one know of a reputable one that does not lag your computer? Would be cool if it could access your webcam as well.

Re: Recording Videos
Playing a game & forcing the computer to take 30 images of that game every second or over is extremely stressful on the computer. People who have lag-free video usually either use professional video cameras, or cameras set to record via screen input, or have a computer that is top of the line able to push out that memory usage.
I really want to get my hands on megamon's setup for video recording because it is just the sexiest

Re: Recording Videos
The bottleneck for screen recording with fraps is actually the write speed of your harddrives. You can do it flawlessly with an ssd.
If you use some other programs that try to encode it while recording then it will probably lag.Comment

Re: Recording Videos
Looking at some of the various programs you guys talked about. Thanks for the help! And Megamon's setup looks pretty ideal to me.

Re: Recording Videos
Megamon's screen recording countdown looks like the one for Camtasia Studio's screen recorder. I've used camtasia for FFR before and it works like a charm. The only problem is that the video files tend to be massive unless you specify smaller quality, and editing massive video files is a pain on a potato like mine.
edit: You can't live stream with Camtasia though, and that's why I don't use it as much as xsplit (although xsplit is kind of a joke)
