Who named these games? First of all, I wouldn't have picked "Alpha and Omega". It feels odd to call the games "First and Last". The previous generation got "Heart and Soul", a pleasant-sounding phrase, but "Alpha and Omega" brings to mind a completely different set of mental images (superiority and inferiority, religious meanings) which I don't think fit at all.
To go with the Team Magma and Team Aqua thing, I definitely would have gone with "(Ash/Molten) Ruby and Storm Sapphire". And Generation III did introduce overworld weather.
But we have "Alpha and Omega" and "Ruby and Sapphire". So it should be "Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphire", right? This is backwards. "Heart Gold and Soul Silver" worked on every level, but this ... I'm guessing they gave "Alpha" to "Sapphire" because of the similar sounds, which makes for a lot of "aph" in one game name, haha. The consonance here I don't think sounds as good as "Soul Silver" though.
But there's no use talking about that now, so, welp. Anyway.
Gen III is the only one I don't have physical copies of. Will probably get one of the new ones if I have friends talking me into it at who would play with me at the time. Berries berries berries berries.
I hope they don't bring back the Battle Frontier in its original glory. Yeah, Salamence finally gets a chance to use that beastly attack stat thanks to the damage split, but the Factory was damn near impossible to gold-plate in Platinum. I think like, what, only 10 guys in all of Smogon have pulled it off?
And no, I still haven't worked up the courage to try for the Ability Symbol again. The nerves are just too much by the time I hit the fifth wave.

it may have to do with the two legendaries being the first pair in the series that tie into the world's creation
alpha and omega have been used to describe the abrahamic god for many years

Oh, yeah, totally forgot about the creation lore from the games. That makes sense. The religious use of the phrase does fit then, so nevermind about that I guess, eheh. (Still think it sounds a little odd, but I'll get used to it.)

They could have just as easily split the circle on Kyogre to make it the omega, and then the words would be in the right order. Reading some Bulbapedia stuff, it doesn't seem like either legendary plays more of a roll in the beginning or end of the world than the other, so it could have gone either way. But, yeah, still a cool design detail. Wouldn't have noticed otherwise.
A game with three regions would really be something, yeah. Would have been cool to weave an overarching story through each one.
i'd argue that the current gen is the best because any glitches can be patched
That's an interesting way of looking at it. I would say that the current gen does have the most robust game engine and design too.
I just wish more games did like GSC. Having Kanto to explore in addition to the new Johto was AMAZING. That was the big draw for me. Well, that and the fact that there were plenty of monsters to choose from, but there wasn't yet an unwieldy list that I'd never be able to remember every single one of. I guess third gen wasn't THAT bad, but I understand it's up around 700 right now? That's crazy!
I don't know if I'd value potential bugfixes that highly though. What's Nintendo's track record for actually taking care of this stuff? Furthermore having the ability to patch bugs can make devs more lazy in that they figure they can just fix stuff later, after it's already in the consumer's hands. I mean, don't get me wrong, patches are GREAT and I'm glad they're a possibility now, but it's definitely double-edged sword.

what they really need is crystal x emerald crossover
that features kanto johto and hoenn, and u can choose to start whichever continent u likE
The idea of a double-remake sounds pretty cool to me. I think I also read somewhere that there's a fan theory that a few of the games happened at the same time. RBY and RSE, I think? And then with GSC and DPP? That could be interesting. I know I'd play this game if it included a 3DS version of Kanto.
