The ENTIRE TOWN is in on it because they want to keep winning a city award, and so they'll kill off anyone who threatens their chances. That's why the "accident rate" is so high.

Speaking of which:

That thumping noise they're hearing on the other side of the wall every night? They're hearing their own dead bodies in the future. They eventually get killed by getting hanged from the neck in the middle of the room, and then the little boy plays with their bodies by pushing them towards the wall, so their feet thump against it.

^this is prob. the only plot twist that actually scared me a little

Everything that happened actually happened. But when they died, they went to a sort of purgatory and then moved on together. The writers are fucking hacks.
