Out of curiousity, if a human being's legs were completely cut off (and the person still had a functioning body), would his or her body still be able to create a sufficient amount of red and white blood cells when he or she loses a lot of blood? I've read that the femur bone, which is located in our thighs, creates most of the blood in our body, so could he or she still survive?

Re: Random Question about Human Blood Generation
Yes, when you loose blood your kidneys create hormones called erythropoietin that tells your bone marrow (bloods origin) to create more blood cells. At the event of an amputation, no, unless you applied a tourniquet or somehow cauterized your wounds, you would eventually die from loss of blood. But a person that has lost both legs and successfuly stopped blood flow (and closed wounds or else infection would be inevitable) would live, their kidneys and bone marrow would just work slightly harder to produce new blood cells in the future. A person that is younger produces blood cells more quickly than an older one, as you age bone marrow becomes yellow (does not produce cells) and bone marrow in more specific parts throughout your body, such as your spine creates the cells...that is to say I guess, the less of your body that you have...the more difficult it is to produce blood.Last edited by ffr212; 10-31-2013, 09:50 AM.

This does not relate to the RPG at all; this is a completely separate thread. ^.^
Thank you for the explination ffr212. I'm glad that the human body are so versatile in helping our bodies stay alive.
