I am surprised no one has made this yet. Share your thoughts on what is happening right now, your thoughts on Obama's decision, etc.

Re: The Syria Thread
Stop sending taxpayers dollars to other countries when they buy up arms with it and attack back at you. Pretty much that but there's tons more crap that happens besides that.Originally posted by hi19hi19Also why is "summon" in quotation marks as usually that signifies an alternate meaning like for example last night I "visited" your mother but it really means last night I "fucked her in the ass" so exactly what is the subtext of "summon" because I am not sure I am comfortable with the implications
Originally posted by m0deim usually the "nice guy" around these parts.. but this is bad, and you should feel bad. i would rather dip my balls in honey and hover them over a red ant hill than to ever hear such butchered crap. -

Re: The Syria Thread
Maybe it's because nobody wants to talk about it or don't care about it.
Just another war, nothing new.

Re: The Syria Thread
That's a problem with the military industrial complex. America produces too many guns, and then they get into the wrong hands.
Also having the US intervene with other countries is debatable, but when there is chemical warfare, that is an extreme circumstance. It also doesn't help that the middle east has all the oil it needs.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Obama says he's going to Congress for authorization.
That's amazing.Comment

Last time the chemical weapons card was pulled, it was total bullshit and completely pretestuous, and i expect nothing different this time. How can you be so indifferent is just beyond me.

Re: The Syria Thread
Let's not kid ourselves. Western involvement is about controlling the region's resources. the u.s. really doesn't give a shit about human rights, so dont believe any politician when he says that he does. the u.s. is responsible for more war crimes than any other standing government and they will continue to commit war crimes for as long as possible. we also must realize that a lot of what is going on doesn't make it to the news stations and is classified info. Read Bitter Fruit, a book about the CIA's involvement in Guatemala in the 50's and you will see exactly what they are capable of. Iran in the 70's, Iraq in the 90's and 2000's, Afghanistan in 2001 using the whole "terrorism" pretext, Libya and now Syria(not counting all the other clandestine operations that have been going on in the middle east)... it's pretty obvious whats going on.. we're trying to make sure that nobody else gets the upper hand when it comes to controlling how things(oil, shipping routes, natural gas, pipelines, trade, etc) operate in that region.

Imagine if the president said he won't act in the conflict, the republicans would jump on this saying the president doesn't care about syrian civilians and how he won't do anything about foreign threats. Pure speculation, but it makes more sense to me than the oil-argument alone.Comment

Re: The Syria Thread
That's a naive stance to have, this is a strategic decision and one that is more related to global politics than internal U.s. politics. Politicians are full of shit 100% of the time so please don't buy into their rhetoric. look at that map i provided and then think about the u.s.'s involvement in that region in recent decades.More a political move than anything else.

Re: The Syria Thread
That's what the u.s. is doing, they just want to be involved so that they can shape the conflict so that whoever comes out on top is aligned with U.S. interests.
to provide some context, here's a map showing all the (known) U.S. military bases in the region
