    night owls

where are my fellow nocturnal humans? i have a few questions for you...

why do you stay up so late / early (whatever lol)?
if you could change your sleep schedule, would you? (optional: why?)
how long has this been a habit?
is it on and off? like a month straight your sleep sched. is fucked then the next month it's normal.... or has it always been this way? (by "always" you should assume for a couple of years straight or something, iunno)
do you enjoy staying up for so long?
do you still get an average amount of sleep? (like 6-8 hours or so)

i usually try and fall asleep at "normal" times like 10pm-12pm... but some nights i find myself staying up until 2-3 am or later... not sure on the reason, seeing as sometimes this will happen on the days that i do my workout, so it doesn't make much sense to me.

    tell me about yourselves.

    Re: night owls

    Why: Because I can.
Change?: Nah. It doesn't interfere with my work or anything, nor outside activities so there's no real reason.
How long: 2-3 years now? Something like that.
On and off?: Nope, it's pretty constant.
Do I enjoy it?: It doesn't interfere with anything, and no one gets on my case for it anymore, so yeah.
    Average: 9-10 hours.

I usually go to bed around 1-2 AM, and wake up at 11 AM-12 PM.
Life is simply unfair... Don't you think?

      Re: night owls

Why: My brain is more on the art side. I find I am most creative at like 10pm-3am
Change?: I do when I need. But I don't. Mostly because some of my best thoughts / actions are at night.
      How long: 8 years (ish)
On and off?: Only if I need to do something early the next morning. I usually need my beauty sleep.
Do I enjoy it?: Absolutely. It's no problem for me.
Average: [/QUOTE] The difference about me is I can hibernate if I want to, haha. I can run fine on 6 hours of sleep, and I have managed to pull off 15 hours of sleep at a time. Those days are fun.

        Re: night owls

Why: Because I ruined my sleep schedule freshman year of high school and have never been able to fix it.
Change?: I'd like to but I get too many things done at night now, it would be weird.
How long: 7 years, give or take.
        On and off?: Nope.
Do I enjoy it?: Eh, it's a neutral thing.
Average: 3-5 hours except Saturdays. Usually like 12 on Saturdays because of work lolol.

          Re: night owls

          Why: It's normal for me.
Change?: No. I work 2nd shift (4-11p.m.) so it works out perfectly.
First started this pattern: Probably middle school sometime. So like 6-7 years?
On and Off?: No. Unless I'm on vacation, which isn't too often...
          I enjoy it?: Yes.
Average sleep amount: Usually 6-8 hours. Depends on when I fall asleep. I usually do between 3-5a.m.

            Re: night owls

Why: mandatory PM shift training at new job.
I only recently switched over to a morning rise schedule about two months ago and love it. Night owling blows, you don't get to do any of the cool stuff mornings offer.
How long: 10 years I was on an insomniac schedule
Enjoy it?: No. I'm only up because I have another pm training shift tomorrow
Average: wake up at 6am every morning.

Why: Way out of whack caffeine addiction. TF2. Evening shifts.
Change?: I don't currently need to, but it's frustrating to wake up at 10 pm and not be able to do anything until stores open up again.
How long: Since right out of high school, 2009.
On and off?: Unfortunately so. Sometimes I'll run on "normal" time for about a week or two and then fall back into my usual times.
Do I enjoy it?: I like the waking up to and enjoying the peace and quiet, but it does me no favours outside of that.
              Average: Anywhere from 7-13 hours/"night"

                Re: night owls

Why: No job yet and it is more peaceful when nobody is awake
Change?: Will do it whenever something I'm obligated to do forces me
How long: Probably since college where i chose all afternoon classes
On and off?: It's pretty random, yes.
                Do I enjoy it?: Meh
Average: 7-8 hours of sleep per 24 hour period.

                    Re: night owls

Why: Always want to accomplish more before the day ends.
Change?: I don't know. Earlier would probably be better but it doesn't seem to matter much.
First started this pattern: When I was working too many jobs and in full-time college at the same time. Just about 2 years ago I think.
On and Off?: Not really except if I'm with people that force me to do stuff on their schedule.
                    I enjoy it?: Usually.
Average sleep amount: I don't know. Maybe about 8 hours I guess but sometimes more and sometimes less.

                      Re: night owls

My life is pretty much dictated by my sleep pattern. I have been to more doctors about sleep than I can remember as well as several studies. I have to be physically exhausted in order to be able to sleep which may include a night of lying down tossing and turning awake all night so that I'll be exhausted enough the following night to pass out and it usually is a miserable day leading up to that point. I have no choice in the matter. It fluctuates in its severity but currently I have had to resort to drinking again while smoking til I start to eventually nod off indicating that I am fighting to stay awake which is about the only way I've been able to sleep lately.

Ive been working graveyard for 3 years now. I like it because I can choose whatever class schedule I want because work doesn't really interfere. I average 3-5 hours of sleep during the week and 10-12 hours on weekends when I do t do anything and 6-8 when I do things. Its w/e for me though.

korny, dat sucks man... do you try to do more during the day? all i can think of is to exercise a LOT or something. i'm not a professional though, so iunno. i hope that shit improves for you. sleep is BOMB.

woah woah bearface, what's happening there, 3-5 hours of sleep during the WEEK???
i guess the weekend sort of catches you up...but not really lmfao. unless you mean 3-5 hours a night during the week? lul

everybody else, i can relate to you guys in one way or another, seems throughout a few of teh insomniacs we have similar reasons as to why we stay up... cool info to know i suppose

                            1. It's really just a part of my life now :*(
                            2. I would really want to, so that I could NOT miss the whole afternoon and evening
                            3. Honestly, it's been.. probably 3 years since I've been doing this.
                            4. I probably have the worst sleep schedule in the history of all my friends.
                            5. I enjoy it because of more things to do, knowing that I'm awake and all.
                            6. Well if I'm really really tired, yeah, around 6-8.

why do you stay up so late / early (whatever lol)? Because I'm having too much fun. Also, since I got eczema late last year, I have another excuse to want to avoid bed. Trying to sleep while itching isn't fun, though benadryl has made it a lot easier.
if you could change your sleep schedule, would you? (optional: why?) Changed it recently. Went from going to bed at 6AM-1PM to 3AM-10AM. I missed having sunshine for more than 3-4 hours.
how long has this been a habit? Since I became old enough to where my parents didn't force me to go to bed early (early middle school or late elementry). lol.
is it on and off? like a month straight your sleep sched. is fucked then the next month it's normal.... or has it always been this way? (by "always" you should assume for a couple of years straight or something, iunno) It's pretty constant, unless I have to be up early for something, such as school, work, job interview, etc.
do you enjoy staying up for so long? Yes. it gives me more time for video games and what-not.
do you still get an average amount of sleep? (like 6-8 hours or so) I try to. My schedule is set so I get 7 hour of sleep, but sometimes I'll stay up til 4-5. I'll then still try to wake up at 10, because I'm a greedy bastard, but my body often makes me sleep the full 7. My wake-up time usually has a margin of 2-3 hours, another reason why I switched sleeping schedules. On my previous one, I'd often wake up at 3 or 4 PM.
