    Advertisement Preferences

I noticed this new wave of cookies that ad companies use to specify when kind of ads to show you, by going through your browser history of all things. Kinda creeps me out to no end and doesn't really help me when all my ads revolve around what I've been doing on the web.

I tried to opt out of Google's services, but it prevents you from logging into their sites, so I'm kind of in a tizzy.

So it'll only affect search inquires now. Great. Nothing says Missy Elliot than a speedrun of Sonic Unleashed.

Do you have any toolbars installed by chance? If so, uninstall them.

Couldn't hurt to run a good antispyware program and see what it picks up too.

Other than that, clear out your browser cache and history after every session.

I honestly don't mind ads, I just live with them; if they're allowing me to continue to use whatever free services on the internet for free, then it's something I don't mind living with.

I'm on the fence with search results based on search history.

              Re: Advertisement Preferences

Google services are only ideally free. Their way of making money (one of the many ways they have) is to sell you, the user, and all the data they have been collecting about you. Same goes for social networks like facebook. I personally find that frightening, because these open the path to even more invasive "services" that could ultimately damage our personal freedom.

However, the thing is it's a service and it's not wrong to pay for it. The tradeoff is at the moment substantially harmless, cause ads based on your search history is not even that bad. The real problem is: what happens if this trend escalates into gradually more invasive stuff?

increases page loading time by a huge amount too

I prefer to keep ads off my pages, unless I like the site and want to keep them alive. Sites full of ads piss me off though.
