I hate Vista

So I decided to make a new folder in my Stepmania folder (by the way is on my Desktop due to Vista's retardation of putting anything in my C: drive) and now it's telling me that it's only read-only and I can't add anything in it unless I have administrative permission.

I'm the only user on this computer, and I'm set as an administrator. I have no idea what causes this really stupid problem; does anyone have any clue what to do about this? It's not only my Stepmania folder. It's literally everything on my Desktop. And I use Avast Virus Protection if that is information you need to know

You have to set your "user account control" level settings down to allow for things to be changed this way in program files. An easier fix is to move stepmania to documents outside of program files.

Control Panel --> User Accounts and Family Safety --> User Accounts --> Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off --> uncheck the box (I haven't had any problems since unchecking it)

what bmah and izzy said. if for some odd reason you wanna keep the rest of your UAC settings intact:

- right click the stepmania directory
- Properties
- "Security" tab
- Edit
- select your user account
- check all the boxes in the allow column.

Alright I think it's fixed.. for now

I can't delete any of my shortcuts but whatever, they match the background

I agree, but windows 7 also has this same UAC settings.
