    Sudoku

About a week ago, I ran into this wonderful little game called Sudoku and I have been spending all my free time on solving them ever since. At first, it was all fun until I pretty much figured out how to solve them all while working on an "evil" rated problem from this website: http://www.websudoku.com/. Now I'm bored the hell out of my mind since it always comes down to the same patterns. I miss being in front of one and saying: Wtf is this shit. I don't even...

A weird pleasure I admit, but I'm addicted to it and I guess that most of you here at FFR understand what being addicted means xD That said, I was wondering if anyone here knows a place where I can get more challenging ones than the "evil" rated ones at the site I just posted. Note that challenging here doesn't mean that it just takes longer to solve. I thank you in advance for helping out a fellow maniac xD

        Re: Sudoku

I went a week or so without internet a few years ago and all I did was do sudokus xD they're a nice challenge and keep your brain working. I'm a casual sudoku "player" so I'm not really able to do the "evil" rating kind of stuff xD

It's alright xD As long as it's fun to you, I think that's the only thing that matters :3

            Re: Sudoku

Sudoku used to be a big deal about seven years ago, I'm surprised you didn't hear about it then. Anyway, I was solving them a lot back then. I don't solve as many these days but it's still one of my hobbies. I never got really in-depth with solving techniques so most of the "evil"-difficulty puzzles are out of my grasp. If you're looking for harder puzzles, there are several generators/solvers that you can download. Simple Sudoku is a popular one.

If you like logic puzzles, you should check out Masyu and Slitherlink, both of which were invented by Nikoli, the Japanese puzzle publishers who popularized Sudoku.
Check out Guessthatalbum.com for a fun music-related game.

I make metal files for keyboard players! Check them out at:

              Re: Sudoku

Sudoku really kicked off the number-placing craze, so it should come as so surprise that there are now variations on the theme. I know of two that might be interesting:

Kakuro challenges you to put numbers 1-9 in a crossword-esque grid such that the sum of the numbers in each row or column adds up to the given total, without numbers repeating in a line. This one is all about knowing which patterns are permissible given the rules (for example, a two-number row that adds to 16 can only be 9 and 7 in some order) and eliminating possibilities as the grid is filled in.

Ken Ken takes the "no number in the same row" concept of Sudoku and splits the grid into irregularly-shaped boxes. They give you a total and a math operation to perform on the numbers in each box. For example, "4x" means that the numbers in the box multiply to 4. I've seen two flavors of grid size, 4x4 and 6x6.

Oh man, Kakuro is another fun one. I haven't done any of those in a while, any one have any good sites to find them? (I'm sure I could find one, just wondering if there's any good ones that you guys could recommend.)

                    Re: Sudoku

It's not really related to sudoku, but I've recently been addicted to mahjong. It's cool planning what to do several moves ahead, and predicting what the other 3 players have in their hand based on their discards.

I went through a sudoku phase when my friend and I played it in class each morning from the newspaper.

                        Re: Sudoku

I usually do the sudoku and crossword puzzle every day in the paper. 9x9 sudoku's have gotten really easy though, to the point that there isn't much fun in doing them other than speed running them.

Crossword puzzles however can have a pretty high skill cap. I still frequently find puzzles that are way too hard for me to bother with without using resources. I'd recommend them if you like puzzles!
