On live?

Hey i heard from a friend about something called On-Live. He said its coming in like 2011 and its going to be amazing. Its supposed to to be online gaming, where you buy your games right on your screen, play them without disc or anything right on the screen, and have no lag because of that. I heard that you will be able to buy comp games, and console games.



Is this true? If it is, than do elaborate, because I am really curious and this has to sound pretty yummy to some of you fine people.

This concept is based on something called "cloud computing," where the actual processing of the game is done at some remote location, and the hardware you buy simply relays your commands to that location. It then receives a video stream from that location which it displays to you, showing you what happens.

There is no -video- lag, but there will still be latency in terms of how long it takes the data to travel between you and wherever that processing location is. Essentially, it'll be like playing an online computer game, except the server is doing the game processing, not your own computer.
