FFXI. Does anyone play this.

I want to get it, because I'm currently obsessed with anything FF(Resorted to playing X-2, lol) and in need of something to keep me busy over the summer. I think it's like 4th ranked MMO as far as users, but that's still not many due to WoW being 1st ranked with like 90% of the users.

I'm scared I'm gonna get on and find like 1 server with 10 people playing or something. Any info or anything?

Every server still has a crapload of people playing on it, but the downfall is that it has been out for so long it's hard to find a low level party because everyone is Lv75 in most jobs now. I used to play a Lv75 Thief on Carbuncle.

Also, the game is party based at level 20+. If you don't have a party you basically can't level. There's almost nothing in the game that is solo based.

Good god I hate FFXI. It's an MMORPG. Why the heck would you want to play that, particularly one with even more grinding than is typical? If you're looking for a Final Fantasy fix, pick up 1-6. No one seems to play them even though they're a lot better than 7 and 8 IMO, and at least as good as 9, 10, and 12.

Yeah I've actually played all of the originals. Except 3 and 6. I loved 4. Couldn't really get in to 1 or 2. Liked 5 too. 4 is definitely my second favorite FF game behind 10.

Yea at this point it would be very hard to hit a high level without a static party all the way through.

5 i believe. You can probably do a few certain combination to level with 3 people. But i think later on you really do need 5.

A static party really isn't necessary for much of the game, although it does help. Finding parties every time you go out can be a pain in the neck, but if you play the right class (read: Red Mage), then you can solo pretty far. Personally, the game is quite a lot of fun once you get past the early levels, but it certainly does have a much steeper time commitment than most MMOs.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't delevel yourself to 10, if you wanted to just stand around and get hit for hours on end.

Play Final Fantasy 9, very good and I recommend it
