I have all three of Xbox, GC, and PS2, and they all have their good points. I'll break down what I've seen so far in my playing tendencies and whatnot:
PS2: I have less than 15 games for PS2 and they, in general, do not match the other system-specific games Xbox and GC have. Just the FF series.
If there is a game coming for all three systems, I get it for GC usually. Xbox and GC are definitely better than PS2 and they are about equal. There is quite a contrast between the system-only games Xbox and GC have, which makes buying games easy.
GC & Xbox: Very few bad points, and for each bad point either of the two have, the other system picks up the end.
Game of the Year 2002: Eternal Darkness (GC)
Game of the Year 2003: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GC/Xbox)
PS2 will fizzle within the next three years because Microsoft is going to bring their next system around the same time PS2 is just confirming one. Both MS and Nintendo have busy developing studios. Sony has been left in the dust and is only being carried by the fact that it has Squaresoft and that it came out so early. I used to be impressed with them, but now it's like they don't care about what happens to the well-being of the Playstation.
Have you ever played Eternal Darkness? It's an extraordinarily good game. And there is no "Gamecube Official Mag". The magazine is called Nintendo Power, and is probably the best gaming mag out there.
But I disagree with PoP for 2003 GOTY. I would have to argue that Viewtiful Joe is the GOTY of 2003. However, Privateer told me he hadn't played it, so whatever.
Neither Eternal Darkness nor Viewtiful Joe should get GOY. They are good games, but there are far better ones out there. PoP is better than both, Halo (although I hate to admit it) is better than both, hell, Ratchet and Clank: GC is better. You guys have screwy tastes that have been flawed from playing crap Cube games too long. The cube focuses on kiddy games, and don't try to deny it...only the Cube would publish games like Pokemon Channel, P.N.03 or Animal Crossing and expect them to sell.
Anyway, I've been playing video games for a loooong time, and I know what's good, and what's not. I'm just saying, Viewtiful Joe is obviously the best game released in 03.
Also, who cares if a game is "kiddy"? If the game is fun, who cares? Just drop your "mature" attitude for a bit and play a game just to have fun. That's what games are for, despite what the media says.
And the GBA has the best games of any of the systems out today, as a whole. Even if there are individual games that are better than stuff on it (Viewtiful Joe, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, etc.), the GBA still has the most good games.
That's another problem with the gaming industry today; people just make games with amazing graphics, tons of blood, explosions, and sex, and expect them to sell. Now, while the more shallow-minded "gamer" (I hesitate to even call such a person a gamer) may accept these games for their "coolness" and hype, in an effort to appear mature, I for one will not. I know, like the rest of the true gamers, that gameplay is what makes a game; not fancy graphics, explosions, blood, and sex.
For an example of a supposedly "kiddy" (a word I wish would pass out of the vernacular) game that turned out really well, look at Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. That game is fun as hell, but many people refuse to buy it merely because it has colorful graphics and a silly plot line. If they were to actually play the game, they would see that it was a blast to play. However, they are too disillusioned by what's "cool" to see the game for what it is.
In conclusion, people who judge games based on the "maturity level" of the game are shallow-minded, and should not be allowed to call themselves gamers. A true gamer knows that any game is only good as its gameplay (and plot, for RPG/Adventure titles).
Just some food for thought.
Hmm... I think I'll modify this and post it on my site.

OLD SCHOOL. True, I would say NES is the best fuc*ing thing since sliced bread. The games had sad graphics, but who the fuc* cared, the games owned. PLUS, IT HAD TETRIS!!!!!!!! and you guys know how I feel about Tetris.

Think about it, your playin chess with an old man in the park, he messes up and you use your pawn to kill his knight or something, then you can get up and shout \"Pawned your arse old man!\" and run away!
The best system is by far the SNES. It had some of the best games ever, like Chrono Trigger, and Super Metroid. It also had the early Final Fantasies, and some great Mario games. And who could forget Harvest Moon?
