    FFX: picking it back up.

Well, since my 4th PS2 is broken...
All I can play right now is Aggressive Inline and Final Fantasy X.
(I haven't even gotten to play God of War yet and I've had it for 2 weeks now.)
I decided to pick Final Fantasy X back up and start over since I have never beaten Sin/Jecht.
I remember getting to that fight and then not being able to beat it.
Then my PS2 broke (2nd one) and I decided to take it back and get a new one with the warranty, and just trade the new one into Game Stop for credit.
So I traded all of my games, memory cards, and controllers also.

    SOOOOOO....

I have opened up my PS2 and used an air blasting cannister, and that made it work for about a week, but now it is not playing any games but the two... (Aggressive Inline & FFX).

Anyone else have problems with their PS2's where they just stop reading most of your games and only some games you have work with it?

It's a fairly common problem. Is the error message you're getting "Disc Read Error"?

This is the most thorough guide I've seen concerning repairing that on your own. Just note that doing this voids your warranty. But, you said you opened up the thing already, so I guess you already did void the warranty.

The only thing I caution you on is to be very careful about the silver ribbon connecting the power button to the motherboard. When you flip the top of the console, it's attached, so just do it slowly.

And uh, skip the part about removing the bottom panel. That's not important. Just split it into two parts such that the disk drive is at the top and visible when you remove the top.

And finally, if your PS2's interior has two gears next to each other (a white one and a brown one), you have to do a little more searching to find out how to make that work. The brown gear resets the position of the white gear.

Lol! Thanks for the guide, Squeek. The reason that I laughed was because I have followed that exact same guide a couple months ago when I tried to fix my own PS2 for the first time. Great minds think alike, eh?
Well, I thank you for trying to help me anyways.

(P.S. I'm going to open that god damned PS2 tommorow and try one last time before I buy a new one.)
