Only 2.0GHz? I'd get something faster if you needed this to last for a few years.

          Re: Computer/notebook

I'd say up it a bit more, but that, well, I guess it'll work for the stuff we have right now, but you probably won't be able to use the highest graphic settings on many things.

Or this (this is a desktop)

          Operating System
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
          -- Of course

          Web Manufacturer
          PowerSpec
          -- It works

          Model Number
          PowerSpec 7501
          -- It works

          Motherboard Chipset
          Intel® G965 Express Chipset
          -- It works

          Processor
          Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor E6300
          -- Look down

          Processor Speed
          1.86GHz
          -- I'd make this 3GHz at least

          Level 2 Cache
          2MB Level 2 Cache
          -- Clear your cache

          Data Bus Speed
          1066MHz Frontside Bus
          -- It works

RAM Installed / Max RAM Supported
          1GB PC-5300 DDR2 RAM (Expandable to 4.0GB)
-- I'd upgrade this to 2GB at least

          Memory Configuration
          (2) 512MB DIMM Memory Modules
          -- It works

          Memory Slots Available
          (2) Available 240-pin DIMM Slots
          -- It works

          Hard Drive
320GB 7,200RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive
-- Personally, I'd get a Tera, but most people won't need it. Most people will have difficulty filling up 200GB.

If you get the stuff I said, you'll probably last a while.

            Re: Computer/notebook

A 1.86 GHz Core 2 Duo runs much faster than a 3 GHz Pentium 4 with HT. I have a laptop (Core 2 Duo, 1.67 GHz, I think) that runs 4x faster than my desktop (P4 HT 2.8 GHz) when encoding with DiVX. Go read some benchmark scores if you don't believe me.

Each of those is good if the RAM is at 1GB. But you'd be much better off with 2GB.

PROUD OWNER OF TWO OMEGA FAVORS. YEAH, NICE TRY.

              Re: Computer/notebook

GHZ really don't matter on a CPU useless your comparing it to the exact same other CPU. Look at AMD's and how they killed intel with 2/3 of the clock speed.

What will you be using the laptop/desktop for?

                Re: Computer/notebook

umm yeah GHz doesn't really matter, RAM does. You need 1 GB of RAM on a notebook no matter what.

and nforcer is right too.. core2duo is great.

                  Re: Computer/notebook

It depends what your budget is. I'd get the 6300 or 6600 over most AMD processors around the same price.

Go with the 2gb of RAM. As for video cards, nVidia 7900 and Ati X1850x are both good choices if you don't mind spending between 3-4 hundred dollars.

                    Re: Computer/notebook

Always get an Intel over AMD if you can. AMD performs well normally, but Intel always outperforms comparable AMD processors in benchmark tests.
