Escape Velocity

A nifty little space conquest game from Ambrosia. You fly around space doing cargo missions, ferrying passengers, fending off pirates, becoming a pirate, taking over the galaxy, etc. etc.

I've been playing it for around 10 years and I love it. It's 2d, it's fun, and it's like O:

There are three games in the series so far.

Escape Velocity
Escape Velocity: Override
Escape Velocity: Nova

The first two are only available on mac. Nova has been ported to PC and is the newest one. You can download plug-ins to play the other two game on your PC.

I'm going to let you know now that it's not free. There is a $30 registration fee for Nova that unlocks many things in the game, and lets you use the plug-ins to get the other two games. Well, I'm not really sure of it allowing use of the plug-ins, I didn't try to use them before I registered it. I actually just registered it today and am having a blast. There is no multiplayer/LAN. It is single-player only.

I am vaguely familiar with Escape Velocity, I've heard some great things about it. Downloading now, but not able to register.

I was doing pretty well just doing runs and escort passengers, but the minute I'm given the chance to do an exclusive special mission, I eff up and get destroyed by a stray missle. But that's okay, I had an auto-eject and escape pod, and 65k left. So I buy those two things again, a solar panel, and begin another trade route, when BAM THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. Now I'm right back to square one again, with only 11k left.

Tommorrow, I'll do it right.

It's easier if you just die because then you start back at the last planet you landed on.

I have a registration code...but...you know...I purchased it legally and all...so...I am less inclined to give it away. That is, unless, you have something cool ;>

PS Turn on caps lock for the game to run in 2x speed. You get things done way faster.

Hell effing yesssssss. Got me a niiice cargo ship, and now I have almost 200k. Scooooooooooore!

I wonder when I'll start having to worry about ambushes. Only once have I been both targeted and hit, but it was by a single puny peon ship and I blew it up with ease.

Made a copy of my cargo ship file, and bought a Valkyrie, named the Sapphire Dream. I pimped it up, and went and became part of the WILD GEESE! Hee-haw, I'm a frikin' mercenary!

I've been playing EV: Override just for the nostalgia. After I get a Crescent Warship in it and start taking over small pockets of the galaxy, I'm going to start playing Nova.

Hmmm...

Maybe I shoudl try to get one of those big giant ships. Like, continue my Cargo Ship file, until I have a crapload of casshhhhh, and then just buy all the licenses, buy the biggest ship, and buy everything you would want for it.

Heh, I remember playing the original on a friends mac years ago.

Wish they would port it to Windows, I don't like Nova as much. :/

It has been ported to Windows. If you would just read my post...

My pilot file on Override got messed up somehow and it won't save. No Crescent Warship for a while...
