    Re: E3 2006.

I'm pretty damned sure I'm going to be getting myself a Wii. It's basically the only one within my price range, but that's not really a factor for me right now. Now, I'm not the type to stand in a line to play the thing on release day. I'm going to wait for someone else to get it to see if I like what they've done for myself. However, as of right now, things look convincing.

Now here's what befuddles me about the PS3. Take a look at what I've found on Blu-ray DVD Players.

Blu-ray Players, specifications and release dates for new and upcoming Blu-ray Players, including Blu-ray Player reviews and much more.

Look at the pricing there. The cheaper models have a projected price of $1000. Now Sony claims they are selling it, built into a console, for $600. With all of the money lost on each unit sold, it looks to me like the most they could do, assuming they get monstrous game revenue, is break even. There has to be something I'm missing here. Maybe these Blu-ray Players are actually a lot cheaper to manufacture than what they're being sold for?

I guess only time will tell. Squeek, that picture is awesome.

      Here's what you're missing.

      1) Sony is indeed losing a lot of money on each console produced, just like Microsoft is. They plan to make it up when people pay for games which don't cost as much to produce.

      2) Sony is indeed stupid for pulling this stunt. Nobody is willing to go re-buy their 100, 200, even 300 DVD movie collection for a small boost in graphical display. It's too soon. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will fail. They tried this with the UMD, and that is now dead.

          Re: E3 2006.

I'm gonna buy a Wii immediately.

I'll wait a long while to get a 360 and a PS3. I'll get a 360 just to get Halo 3, even if it costs a lot. Halo 3 will make my life until 4 comes out. Halo 2 did it, so 3 will absolutely blow my mind. I still play Halo 2 today and consider it VERY fun.

PS3, well, I dunno. If there are any really awesome games that make me really want to buy it, I guess I might buy it soon. Otherwise it's gonna take at least a year. Just imagine what crap they may throw at us, but they might throw some good stuff.

            Re: E3 2006.

There's only a few games I've seen at E3 that jumped out at me.
Gears of War: Just looks like a fun tactical shooter with good graphics, smart enemies, and good cover-to-cover gameplay. Kinda like Full Spectrum warrior but with first person control. And no crappy "I can see the guy's arms and legs and head I just can't shoot him because he's behind a wall."
Resistance, Fall of Man: This one looks like another fun shooter, though.. some of the bad guys looked a bit like the Halo 2's 'evil' covenent.
Spore: This looks fun. Fun to create your own little monster guy and have them travel to other people's planets and 'infest' them all the while smashing their infestations and watching your planet grow.
Zelda, Twilight Princess: Anticipation so high for this game. It's on the Gamecube too which I think is a good move. Too many were expecting it to be on there anyway to disappoint now. Looks good graphically and an interesting combat system with the Wii controller.

The other games... I'll wait till I see more.

Nintendo can and will do wrong.

Sony and Microsoft just do so much more of it.

Both consoles cost a heckofalotta money to purchase and don't really have that much to offer. Microsoft has yet to release a title that has any interest to me for their console. Generic racing game here, generic FPS there... nothing good. Sony has yet to prove to me that there's a reason to get a PS3. Katamari is finished with the PSP release. Never liked Final Fantasy even when it was a Nintendo franchise. All of their third-party developers are going to Nintendo. Why? Devkit is cheaper and so so SO much easier to work with. Also, there is a lot of flexibility to work with.

Wii is slated to be anywhere from 150 to 250. I'm banking on the middle ground, since every other Nintendo console released at $199.99. Third-party developers are already signing on to this. Incredible launch lineup. Impressive gameplay.

Microsoft's console had multiple instances of overheating and game lockups on release day. The PS3 is already freezing on DEMO GAMES. GAMES THAT RUN FROM A HARD DRIVE! Oh, and you were mentioning gimmicks with the Wii-mote? How about that PS3 controller that tilts? Guess when the idea for that one came about. Two weeks ago. Also, no rumble for Sony since they stole it from another company and lost the lawsuit.

Well aware of the fact that people are having some difficulties sensing the controller properly with the Wii on the show floor. It might be because of how many there are in close quarters, which will not happen when it's in a living room.

I am going to buy a wii and then have sex with it. How can such a console that isn't even released yet have so much amounts of awsomeness in it. Along with many awsome games.

Gamecube had terrible FPS though. That's why I didn't get one. Hopefully Wii will have some better ones to choose from.

So is it set in stone that you "rent" the NES games for around 5 dollars or so?

                      Re: E3 2006.

Despite overheating, Squeek, I will admit that Microsoft played thier cards right, although it was more from luck than anything.

With Sony being so overhyped and crazy on Bluray support and graphics, their system is majorly overpriced and they're STILL going to lose money. They will sell out, of course, but only to those people who are going to sell it on eBay, PROMISED their spoiled child that they'd get a PS3 for Christmas, and people with a lot of money. After a few months, it will be in stock and it will be overstocked because many people will move to the Xbox 360, and a few to the Wii.

                      The Wii, although it is targetting people who aren't into gaming, probably won't get that many new people into the market unless Nintendo tries pretty damn hard at making this known that this is meant for people who don't consider themselves gamers. I'm lacking a good analogy to explain it, though ;_;

The Xbox 360 is nowheres near as pricey as the PS3. It is pretty expensive, though. Although it may seem like people will go to no bounds in their wallet to buy electronics (example: PSP), there's a limit. A majority of those people will probably move to the Xbox 360, frightened by the "kiddiness" of Nintendo. The rest will move to Nintendo because they either didn't have an interest in Microsoft or they will realize that prices are getting a bit out of hand.

May be a little sloppy, but that's pretty much what I think. I think the Xbox 360 is going to gain a lot of momentum, getting it almost tied up to and maybe even past the PS3. Unfortunately, the oh-so underappreciated Nintendo will probably still lag behind. Let's hope they get some more free publicity, and a lot of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but blu-ray players can also play CDs/DVDs, right? That's why UMDs and laserdiscs didn't work, cuz the players only worked for the new things. DVD players being able to play CDs as well helped make it take over for movies. If blu-ray takes over as the new format, nobody would have to re-buy their DVDs, but they may eventually have to get a blu-ray player so they can buy the newest movies, kinda like VCR people eventually had to upgrade. It's kinda like games on DVD-ROMs instead of CDs. Companies are starting to make both, but they'll eventually phase out CD-only readers cuz everything will be on DVDs.

As for what I'm going to get, I'll prolly get a PS3.....eventually. I may end up getting a Wii in the mean time, like I've said before, to play games with my gf and other people who wouldn't normally want to play with me. If it's really so easy to play with then they'd all surely be more willing to play with me.

And that's what some of you guys are forgetting about the Wii. LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BUY IT! It's going to be cheaper than the other consoles, which attracts sales. It's going to be easy to play for non-gamers, which will attract sales. Also, the people who are willing to pay PS3 prices but who already bought a 360 may get a Wii with their extra money, since it will have games completely different from a 360 whereas PS3 will be mostly more of the same. People who don't know anything about consoles but go to a friend's house/best buy/anywhere with a Wii will play it and be like OMG SO FUN! Plus, Nintendo will make money on its games AND its system, whereas PS3/360 are relying on the games to make up for losses in the consoles.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.
