    Differences between CS 1.6 CS:S...

...and why all the competitive kids like 1.6 so much better. I don't know much about CS (I don't really like CS that much compared to other FPSs) so I need you guys to tell me what the big friggin deal is. Ready? Go.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

One of the hardest things in cs to get used to is the recoil since it is very high compared to other shooters. So all the competitive players pretty much mastered the recoil in the half life 1 counterstrike, but for some reason valve decided to revamp the entire recoil system for source. They drastically lowered recoil on the guns, throwing of the godly rapid fire sprays of the 1.6 pros. If you have both games, just get a high recoil gun like an ak and spray a wall and you can see how different the guns are. So instead of readjusting to the new recoil, most people stick with good ol 1.6.

There are a bunch of other issues with source's gameplay. Because (I suppose) of how good the graphics and physics are in source, there are hitbox issues. Sometimes you can shoot behind someone while they are running and hit them, and likewise shoot their sprite but miss their lagging hitbox. The maps are also different in some ways. For example on source's dust2 you can't shoot from long A to B double doors since they lowered the wall thing under catwalk. Hell, they changed the feel of inferno so much I got lost the first time I played it.

The only good things about source is the removal of the shield and smoke grenades lag less. And it's so daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn pretty O_O.

Thank you, sir. You just totally solved our confusion, and in a friendly manner.

The gameplay is completely different. Like shady said, the recoil and hitboxes are different. In most competitors' opinions, they're too 'noob-friendly'. You can't wall anymore, 'nuff said. The physics suck. Sure they're more realistic, but for gameplay purposes they're just dumb. There was nothing wrong with 1.6's physics engine. I don't play CS to play something extremely realistic. I want to see someone flying 10 feet when I shoot them in the head. Objects like barrels are annoying and useless. They screwed up a lot of maps too. De_inferno is rediculous. To sum it up, it's still got a good ways to go to catch up with 1.6 from a competative standpoint.

Source isn't really that bad of a game, but as many FPSs, the gameplay sucks compared to 1.6.

The reason this is such a big deal is the major leagues want to replace 1.6 with Source. It's not so much the game itself as it is the replacement of 1.6. The usage of Source was obviously very premature, as the game still needs much improvement and it lacks a lot of support. The CPL had to put back a 1.6 tournament and cut the prize money of the Source tourney.

There is potential for Source. It's only going to get better, but for now, 1.6 really shouldn't be replaced.

I've noticed the hitbox thing, and I've seen videos of people with hitboxes showing versus bots and how terrible it is, but I didn't know there were reasons beyond that. Personally, if the recoil is all that's changed, I think you guys are pansies for not adapting to the new stuff. :P And personally, I don't like the whole "shoot-through-walls" thing in CS. It doesn't make much sense to me. The way wall-shooting works in BF2, however, I like.

May be I need to play CS some and see how different it feels. May be with fixed hit boxes I may actually be decent. But honestly, if I was gonna play a HL1 game, I'd probably play DoD, because I like those style of games more than the pointless fights in CS.

          But thanks for teh infoz!

This is the reason you guys need to stop playing CS and jump aboard the Unreal Tournament 2K4 train with Chromer and have some fun.
