Happens to me, too. If I play something a lil too much I get worse. Some games I'll go back and start playing and be awesome when before I really sucked. I think it's kinda like beginner's luck. Something about it being new makes you a lil bit better. When you play other stuff for a while and then go back, it's like being new again, only you still kinda remember your old techniques, so for a lil while you're friggin awesome.
I call it: go-backer's luck
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
