The Witcher 3

Just started playing this last night. I'm only an hour in and I already love it. Environments are fucking gorgeous and the gameplay seems to have been improved quite a lot from the second. I also stumbled across the mini-game, which looks to be a rather complex deck-building card game. Let the time sink begin!

I'm going to wait on Witcher 3. I have the first two thanks to ridiculous sales and never got around to playing them.

I'm in the same situation as you with regards to getting both of them for like $4 thanks to crazy sales.

I got about 3 hours into the first game before coming to grips with the fact it was one of the worst modern RPGs I've ever played.
I liked precisely nothing about it.

Apparently the second one is better, but the first one left such a bad taste in my mouth that I haven't bothered to play it.

I hadn't even so much as heard of it until I saw some people on reddit bashing about how the newest game's release graphics were shittier & downgraded compared to the demos & trailers.

Wow, so much hate XD Not quite what I expected lol. I actually like the first one a lot more than the second. The downside to that game though is that you need to get through the first act before it starts getting really good. After you get into Vizema and beyond it gets MUCH better.

It's a very story-driven action/adventure/RPG. I'm not saying it's perfect or anything, but getting through the bad to get to the good is well worth it imo. The story is very intricate and engaging. The combat system has its faults, but it's not as bad as it seems once you figure it out. Unfortunately, it takes pretty much all of Act I to do so.

Got it free with my GeForce 970 card. Graphics are amazing. So far the gameplay is pretty great, about 2-3 hours in. I thought the camera was a bit finnicky at first, but you get used to it.

What kind of settings and fps can you push out with your 970?

I'm level 11, not sure how many hours in I am. So far I'm really enjoying this game. The world is pretty incredible. I find myself just exploring for long periods of time. Lots of things to find and chests to loot

One of my only gripes with this game is that a lot of people have the same face. It's a little nit-picky, but it's kind of bothersome.

29 hours in and I just finished the Velen storyline and barely got to level 12. Jesus this game has so much content.

Been playing at max graphics seamlessly.

I'm pretty ass at Gwent btw. Can you only get new cards by beating other people?

That is the main way you get cards, yes. A small number of merchants also sell around 4-7 cards. They usually only cost 10-50 crowns so they aren't too terribly expensive.

I put together a rather insane deck that I've just been demolishing everyone with. I've only lost once since I figured out how to use it properly, so it's not too hard once you get a few key cards. Dummies combined with cards that let you replay stuff from your discard is insanely good. Play the special to get something from the discard, dummy it, then play it again to get another card, repeat. Dummies are the most important thing to have in a lot of situations. It's especially useful when your enemy plays spies on your side since you can then dummy the spy and replay it to make sure you also get the two card bonus and don't fall behind. Falling behind on cards is pretty impossible to recover from in a lot of situations, so it's really important that your opponent doesn't get too far ahead.

Here's an example of an insanely good hand that uses that combination really well. Highlight from when I got that 105 :P
