    Rift went F2P

Went free to play about two weeks ago or so, and it basically breathed a breath of fresh air into the game. I haven't seen this much activity since... To be honest, since the game came out.

Note: When I say F2P, I mean it's F2P. Not P2W. You can buy gear for leveling, but if you want to get into raids/end-game PvP, you have to earn the gear.

If you were interested in Rift before, but never picked it up because of the sub model, you can now play it without any restrictions. And if you do enjoy it, you can purchase 15 or 30 days of sub time ("patron" status). Patrons receive a slightly higher xp rate, and there's a loyalty reward system in place, to get people to use the cash shop. However you can easily go through the entire game without paying a cent of money.

The expansion pack is open to everyone, regardless if you pay monthly or not. The expansion souls, however, cost money.

I got CBR into it and we spent like 4 or so hours questing and tearing apart rifts. 8)

I'm only glowing because he has me targeted lol

If you start playing, we're on the Faeblight server (RP server, but RP is rare and kinda only done within guilds now that it's F2P). My in-game is Choofers, CBR's is... CBR. We're both in the guild Philanthropy, so we'll be able to get anyone invites if they need it.

Combat is standard for MMOs, the major difference is that instead of being shoed into one kind of build, you can use 8 (or 9) different souls to make your own custom build. Of course, some combinations work much better than others, but any build you make can be viable outside of progression raiding.

Definitely didn't know that. I'm going to start playing again for sure.

If I made a new character on faeblight would you guys play with me? The whole reason I stopped playing that game in the first place was because I had no one to play with.

a video card good enough to play this game shouldn't be that expensive, unless you play it really high resolutions
f2p huh? that means the game was starting to flop because it sucks l0l
i would give rift another shot, but i really don't want to sink a lot of time into another mmo

What's the end-game content before I sink an inhuman amount of time, reach max level and feel bad for doing so?

I definitely saw a bunch of random events, a pile of quests to grind on and a skill tree that im not sure where it's going. I just have no purpose to really care about the game without anyone to play with that's looking for someone to pick a certain class to synergize with or any decent goal besides exploring the whole game content.

I.e: What's the difference between this game and something like WoW?

I played this very, very briefly during beta. The computer I was using at the time could barely run it.

I'd like to give it another go but between two jobs and other responsibilities and commitments I just don't think I have the time. :/

End game content is raiding, PvP, artifact hunting, "rifting" (term for going around the world and completing dynamic events), achievements, etc.

I'm not gonna try to sell this to you because it's pretty obvious you already have a general distaste for the game lmao. Play it for a bit. If you like it, keep playing. If you don't, don't.
