When I was small I really hated Sandopolis Zone act 2 from S&K because the ghosts freaked me out, and it was essentially a constant timer on me to hurry up without exploring the pyramid.

And of course, I don't think many people would like act 2 of Carnival Night Zone either. For obvious reasons.

there is a certain way to do it pretty easily but I didn't know that when I was a kid

@bmah: to be honest I got stuck on act 2 of casino night zone too. But I figured out that you have to hit eggman by dashing up the side of the arena and jumping off when your just a bit higher than eggman.

Oil Ocean perhaps? I didn't care for the level design on that one, but loved the music. So much solid game music in the first few sonic games.

Never liked the Death Egg zone. One hit death never seemed fair to me.

The final stretch of Kingdom Valley in Sonic '06, despite having some pretty good music. It blew me away when the Game Grumps beat it on their last life after dying twice.

As for the hardest boss, the final battle with Sonic/Shadow at the end of the good/evil story in Sonic Adventure 2 can be a pain at times.
