Just so this isn't 100% wasted post. The reason they release new consoles are to sell more of them. After they sell consoles, they sell more games. In turn, Developers make more money and make new games with better graphics and such. Then new console, new games, new console on and on. It is how the industry thrives. Stop making new consoles and gaming industry will pretty much stagnate. It is simple concept. If you would like more in-depth information on this subject, let us know. I think the naming scheme would be cool if they stuck with the whole multiples of 360 thing. 360 is representative of a complete revolution. Now you take that as a play on words and say that the Xbox 360 was the first revolution from the original Xbox console, and that the Xbox 720 would be the second revolution in Xbox consoles. And when one thinks of a revolution, they don't think of a minor change, its something revolutionary :P (take the American Revolution for example) I think its an interesting and powerful marketing idea imho...Comment

PS4 controllers with Media Access on them via touchscreen. Like below but smaller and closer to original PS size. Sony pls.

Computer technology hasn't advanced much since the 360 came out. New consoles at this point are pretty much just new to be new.
Whether PS4 is good or not will depend on whether it adopts a better marketing strategy than "Look how FOR 23 YEAR OLDS our games are! BUY US!"
The last thing the world needs is more gritty space marine FPS fuckshit, and Bioware puke, and RPGs like Skyrim for people who don't actually want to play RPGs, and Final Fantasy XVII-4 starring azure-haired anime genderbender "Skye," and Call of Duty: Holy Fuck How Many Times Can We Sell The Same Stale Oorah Bullshit edition, and Madden '15: Out Of The Dev Room, Into The Bargain Bin.

They've evolved a significant amount
New consoles are necessary to compete with PC gaming, to keep console gaming fresh, to get new headlines, and to get people talking.
It's very necessary to keep up with new display resolutions and frame rates. They're also pretty important to make established IPs look different with more advanced graphics and technical abilities (more RAM and more computing power opens up many new doors into viewing distance, physics, artificial intelligence, animations and modeling, to name a few things)
1080p is becoming the new display resolution standard, while current gen consoles can only display in 720p for the vast majority of their games. Many games need to run under 720p as well just to have a decent framerate.
1080p is over twice the amount of pixels of 720p, which is much harder to run. Also consider that most console games only run at 30fps. Half of what is typical on PC games at this moment.
PC gaming keeps growing and growing as well, so new consoles are a must if the console giants want to compete with it.
