They're all real in the sense that they exist and you can go to a store and exchange money for them.

What I don't get is why this has to be on a console otherwise filled with casual luck-based mmo greyscale shooter trash, even though this type of game is exactly what the Wii excels at and is exactly why I have one.

I've seen almost every Ghibli movie and own almost half of them. But to play this game I would require a console I don't want to ever play even one single other game for.

lol Mike, that's exactly why I didn't buy the PS3 or Xbox 360. It IS true that the game library for those consoles largely cater to the hardcore gamers; in fact, some people may conversely refer to the Wii as a "sissy" console because it rarely has games catering to the hardcore audience. Of course, there are a number of interesting PS3 games I've seen, but not enough to make me buy the console. I suppose it depends on what genres of games you're into. I don't really like to make arguments on the console war since everyone has different tastes.

Companies choose consoles based on marketability, compatability, and/or loyalty. If you're suggesting Mike that this game would've been better marketed on the Wii, then perhaps the reason it isn't on the Wii is for compatability issues with the hardware. I remember that in the past, Nintendo's consoles lacked the graphical capabilities to support certain games compared to the ultra-powered engines of Sony's and Microsoft's consoles.

I don't like comparing the hardcoreness of consoles. To me, hardcore is a measure of someone's approach to games, not a quality of any game itself.

On the other hand, some games allow you to push their limits in more satisfying ways than others. For example, it's hard to consider someone a hardcore player of a game that leans heavily on luck, like Mario Party or most sport games and first person shooters, where just as many outcomes are decided by dumb luck or the game's engine as skill.

I think people use the word hardcore more to describe games with extreme graphic violence than games with challenge. If you judge a game's difficulty by how hard it is for an average player to get to the end credits, the Wii's library is decisively more hardcore than the other two.

But I don't even care. I just want to play a game scored by Hisaishi and drawn by Ghibli. Arghhhh.

I really find it annoying that people think hardcore refers to how disturbingly violent a game is, or how much blood it has, or how impossibly difficult it is. A hardcore gamer isn't a gamer who plays games that only fit into the category of hardcore, but actually tries to play all games equally for the sake of gaming. It's considered hardcore because of their dedication to gaming, not what the game itself consists of. That being said, harder and more lengthy games tend to be more appealing because of that fact.

yeah there are tons of awesome jrpgs for the ps3, like disgaea and uh...

well, yeah!

anyway this looks awesome and I can't wait to play it. my roommate has a PS3 he bought for the sole purpose of playing Nippon Ichi games, so I'm not all that frustrated about this. :>

PS3 is a real console...in fact it's the only console even half worth owning this generation.

Either way, PC is better.

The only games I want to even try for PS3 are Mirror's Edge, Catherine, maybe FF13, and this one, and only this one is exclusive. The Wii has individual games that would cost more than the PS3's entire library if they were priced by quality.

It's kind of embarrassing that before the PS3 came out I was begging people to have faith in it, especially FF13, which looked ****ing fantastic after the first E3 trailer. Ni no Kuni might be a decent swan song, but it wont make it okay that Sony went from creating the best console of all time to one of the worst.

Mirror's Edge was really fucen good, I've heard Catherine was pretty good. Haven't played FF13 but then again I haven't owned a PS3 for some time now lol.

Mike, if you can, find one of the first gen PS3s that are completely backwards compatible. And do some research, there are probably a ton of good games hidden behind the garbage that seems to be at the front of the PS3 catalog.

FFXIII is extraordinarily linear, and the combat system is pathetic. You literally can just hit X/A repeatedly and win. Occasionally use Libra, occasionally switch paradigms. The leveling up system is like the Sphere Grid with less actual choices. Once you get to the side quests it can be a semi-fun distraction, but really it's hardly worth it. That said, I liked the story. FFXII-2 is supposed to partially fix some combat issues, idk if they fixed the linear gameplay. FFXIII Versus looks insanely good, and will incorporate the Kingdom Hearts fighting system, which will be leagues above practically every Final Fantasy game's battle systems.

Only ever heard good things about Mirror's Edge, never got to play it.
