how do you know when the game starts or if you know yourt a wolf or human?

You will get a PM detailing your role. If you are a wolf, you will be told your partners (unless otherwise specified by the game's author).
The game begins when the person chosen to lead the game makes the introductory post and tells you it has started. -

Both of these questions could have been answered by reading the rules or, hell, any of the games.

This reminds me of the one topic way back when by a jTWGer that asked what a wolf does and blatantly gave away that they were one.
