Somebody (Afrobean, I think) mentioned in the newest jTWG signups that jTWG should be used for new ideas. It was mentioned when jTWG was originally suggested that it could be used for testing, but when I read this comment recently I realized something: jTWG players aren't even that good as it is, so they would of course suck if we started throwing in new stuff at them. Thus, any ideas we used would seem horribly unbalanced and would never make it out of jTWG.
So I suggest a third game, which I have dubbed Experimental TWG, or eTWG. This game will be reserved for new ideas only. No standard games or minor changes will be played here, everything has to be very unique. People seem to be scared to try radical changes in regular TWG, so eTWG will be our testing area. In order to make sure that ideas are seriously tested, mostly only serious players will be allowed in, just like TWG.
Now, in order to keep this from conflicting with any other TWG, people will only be allowed in either TWG or eTWG, but not both. What we can do is have the signups for TWG, then as soon as they're closed open the signups for eTWG. Anybody who missed the signups for TWG will be able to get in on experiments. Since we don't have a ton of players, eTWG signups will probably not fill very easily. However, as people start dying in TWG, they'll be able to join eTWG and keep playing. Thus, a little ways into TWG, the eTWG will start with a mix of left out players and the deceased from TWG.
This way we'll start a systematic rotation. Nobody will be sitting out of any game for too awefully long, and people will rotate in and out of both games. This will make the common ailment of missing the signups practically a non-issue, as you can always get in on the other game. Also, by the time TWG finishes, eTWG will still be going. The people still playing in eTWG won't take spots from people who want to play in TWG. So this will make the games run in a sort of overlapping but not exactly simultaneous format.
Of course, that's assuming both games run about the same amount of time. I'm sure there will be some ideas that require more people (such as games with 3 teams) that will last a little longer, and there will be some games that are flops (like Manhunt) and end very quickly. In case a game can't really start because it needs more players and too many people are playing in TWG, we can get some of the more newbish players to join in. eTWG will be mostly the better players, but a few newer players may slip in if we need spaces filled up.
Along with this, I'd like to suggest that this part of the forums be advertised somehow. I think Chardish suggested making a sticky somewhere about it so people who may be interested would come and sign up. I know if I didn't know about TWG and I saw a new sticky in the Chit-Chat about it I would come, and I'm sure there are others who would as well. This will help us get enough players to run games as I am suggesting.
And remember, I'm not saying 100% this will work, but I think we should at least try. It can't hurt to have signups and them not get filled completely, right? I for one would gladly sign up for eTWG, especially since I seem to die so early in TWG. So if you agree or disagree, either way, post your thoughts and whether or not you would play.
