http://izzysm.mine.nu/Other%20SongPacks/Xoon%203.rar <-download here to join in on the fun!
So this didn't take off as much as I'd have liked it to last week, but no harm in doing it anyway, right?
Anyhow, this pack is still as solid as I remember it being. Plenty of fun files.
This period in Stepmania history featured:
-The comeback of IOSYS (thanks primarily to people like Puppet and Kommi)
-Introduction of color theory to a wider audience
-Rise of Roar
-Xoon's First Golden Age
-debut of Gundam, future Stepmania Overlord of Subjectivity
(Just bs'ing, haha)
what I've played so far
Alive- perfect file. still great to tap out
Beautiful Angel- it's decent in some parts, unplayable in others (mostly sync and jack problems)
BLN- jjjjjjjjacking file
Candy Gossun- haha. this is so vanilla
Cirno's Perfect Math Class- overlong but pretty solid
CONTRACT- plays like a straight convert. patterns are horrible to hit but that's probably the point
D-Code- somehow this is still fun for me. hate the long jacks at the end though, there had to be a better way to step that.
Danse Macabre- landmark file to end all jumpstream files
Dazzling Destiny- there's this insanity to Puppet files that always keeps me coming back for more, awesome
Deathkenkai- keeps your fingers busy throughout. also freezes are miraculously not annoying in this.
Epidermis- horrible jacks, if you don't mind that then this is definitely going to be your jam
evergreen- what a messy file, haha. still fun for me, but yeah, I'd have done it a lot differently if I had made this file in 2011.
Feast For Eternity- the stops at the end make hitting some of the hands impossible. longass jacks galore. probably the file that makes me want to ask the question below...
fffff- hahahaaa
Garyo- decent little speed practice file.
Hand Throw- quit out at the 12489th roll. jeez the rap at the beginning is long
The question I want to ask regarding this pack is about aesthetic value/flow and scoreboard value. Many of these files utilize frustrating patterns in order to up the difficulty a little; even comparing my files I can see that my newer files are much more streamlined than the files I have in here. But is that necessarily a good thing?
What is your personal guideline when it comes to adding scoring value without being excessive (i.e. when is too much too much)? Do you think stepcharters these days focus too much on making their files aesthetically perfect? Is it possible to have it both ways?
TO EVERYONE: Have fun, and if you have any ideas for the next pack we can play, post 'em here in this thread. Otherwise, the plan is to go with either both of the Xoon Drama Packs or Xoon Finale
