    Cutting songs?

I'm really not sure how you do this. How do you cut a song? Like say eliminating the intro + ending? Is there some special program you need to use or can you just edit the mp3 file somehow?

I figured if I could just step a fairly short segment of a kick-ass song I might be willing to step some more difficult things. Stuff like DT for example. Even then I prolly wouldn't do the whole solo - just a part. I wanna put myself to the test, but without stepping something very long. Like I don't wanna put in like 30 hours.

Any suggestions regarding music to step (ideally fast guitar) or how to cut songs would be much appreciated.

    Thanks guys!!

post-dumps abstractly represent the existential nihilism that the song invokes in the listener with negative space, evoking the ephemeral nature of the mind - the journey of stepmania begins in hope yet soon becomes corroded into a dialectic of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new synthesis

You might look at Liquid Tension Experiment if you really want to challenge yourself. It's pretty much the same people as Dream Theater, except every song is instrumental. There are some parts of "When the Water Breaks" that sound pretty steppable that haven't been stepped yet. Just don't step what's already been done. (Universal Mind, Acid Rain, Biaxident, probably some others I'm forgetting.. EDIT:like Paradigm Shift..)

Thanks a ton guys!! And yes I DO NOT wanna step something that's already been done. I couldn't imagine putting hours into a file only to found out it's already been stepped by GLoVE. That'd suck.

Holy crap that band's awesome!! Never heard of 'em before but now they're certainly one of my top favorites. So I finally figured out how to use those programs. I have the section of the song I want to step. It's late right now so I'll have to start tomorrow. It'll really be a challenge.

Once I'm done I'll post it on the forums and hopefully get some good feedback. I studied GLoVE's files for a while. I think I got the idea. The section I chose is only about 1.5 minutes, but considering all the different notes and excessive tempo changes to maintain sync, I'm sure it'll take a while.

                  Re: Cutting songs?

anyways i always used nero wave editor for cutting songs

there's this side program that comes with the nero package (nero 7 or newer) and is actualy quite decent at editing music. can cut, can do volume fade and a bunch of other stuff. if you don't want anything special and you use nero you may want to get this one.

I thought this was going to be a thread where somebody with under 10 posts and an emo avatar with an emo name wanted to discuss songs people cut to...boy was I wrong. I personally use the DEMO of Acid...probably much better software out there though.
